Hey You Windows CE Old Timers!
Back in the days of yore, before the coming of the Pocket PC, I started up a little FAQ on the Velo 1 HPC, even before I owned the device. It cost me $1500 CAN to get one from the US. 8O That FAQ, and my participation in the Windows CE newsgroup, got me my MVP title, my first meeting with Microsoft, and the rest is history. I ended up launching a few mini Web sites (I really like launching new sites!), but eventually they became relics. I'm a big believer though in the importance of keeping content online and making the Internet an effective archive.
In light of that, I've taken all those old sites (Windows CE FAQ, Velo FAQ, Windows CE Wallpaper Emporium) and archived them under my jasondunn.com domain. If you want a walk down memory lane, go check them out. Remember they're archived - please don't email me about inaccurate information, broken links, etc. It's all frozen in time. Here's a golden oldy from the FAQ that gave me a good chuckle:
[Q:] Where is Excel for my Palm-size PC? Or Word? [A:] Microsoft chose not to put Word or Excel on the Palm-size PC. There is no way to get it, no place to buy it, and no way to run it. If you need these applications, buy an HPC. You can try out bSquare's spreadsheet app here, and Z4Soft has another app here. If you get a new Pocket PC, Pocket Word and Pocket Excel are included.

Wow... that takes me back. I still have my old Compaq HPC (actually manufactured by Casio). 4 megabytes memory, no recording capability, ran on AAs, 480x240 resolution, Microsoft HPC Explorer, Schedule+.
I also owned a Compaq Aero Palm-Size PC. Then I got an iPaq 3650. I sold that on eBay for $130 and bought a brand new e335 for $125 (thanks to Pocket PC Thoughts).
I remember when this site was a tiny blog. Now it's one of the largest Pocket PC sites on the net. Wow.

:soapbox:
Nope. I adore Chantal still (saw her in concert here a couple of months ago), but the Coca-Cola stage just sucks. Standing room only, and they try to cram 1000's of people into a very small area. It's dangerous and ugly - Ashley and I had a bad experience with it last year and I avoid it now. The Stampede board even had the gall to argue with me that they have room for "even more capacity".

I remember this Velo site! I used to visit it often. I can remember an experience that you had with Phillips support....made me go with the Compaq C Series!
You know, I really love my new Toshiba E750 (this whole wireless access thing still has me blown away!). I must admit, though, there was something about those Win CE clamshells. I'd love to see them make a comeback at some point.

Ahhh yes, the fine memories I have of my Velo 500... It was high tech and looked really cool.
Too bad Philips stopped manufacturing WinCE devices, they we're pretty good at designing devices... but they were a bit bulky
Maybe installing Linux on it will put it into some use... ?
Too bad the PC Card adaptor never was bought... 'cause then I'd have a server by only adding Ethernet or WiFi and connecting it to my network!
