Default Windows Mobile Upgrades Available for iPAQ 3800, 3900 and 5450 models

http://www.hp.com/sbso/special/ppc_upgrade.html

HP is almost ready to sell the upgrades to some Pocket PC 2002 devices. If you have your receipt and purchased any of the qualifying devices between May 23, 2003 and September 23, 2003, you get a free upgrade. Otherwise, it will be $29.95 for the CD. Check back on June 26th for more information.

The page to order the upgrade is not yet available. This is great news for iPAQ owners, especially this 3970 user. However, no indication yet as to whether or not the 1910 will be upgradable and the update page only lists the 3900 and 5450, not the 3800 as shown on the button. :?

Well, at first I'd been hoping for this, but now that I've played with a 2215, I'm not interested in an updgrade for my 3950 anymore. I want the new unit!

Default Not sure about the upgrade though.

The rumors that current software may not be compatible has me worried. After collecting software for so long..... :? :?:

I think you'll find that almost all developers, at least commercial ones, will have a powerful incentive to quickly upgrade their applications. Most have had the SDK for over a month now, so you'd think they'd have their apps ready to go. :-)

This is really no different or worse than when Windows XP came out - you had to wait a few months before you got the drivers to really use everything you paid for. Sad, but true.

Probably not, no. It's just too damn old.

I believe the upgrade is limited by the hardware, so the 3600 and 3700 series are out. I'm suprised (and a bit confused) by the graphic stating the 3800 series would be elegible... but then again, it doesn't say so on the site itself. And I almost went for the 3800, but couldn't settle for the screen. Phew! 8)

Let the ****ing about the price commence. One thing to keep in mind guys before hitting that submit button. HP was\is under no obligations to provide an upgrade path at all for older devices. Im actually amazed that they are even supporting the 39xx series at all. I just hope they do a better job of dealing with shipping and handling with this upgrade. My 2002 upgrade for my iPaq cost me 10 bucks, for S/H, for a CD. Why do you need to priority FedEx a CD?!?! While others got it for 5 bucks. It seems as if Compaq decided to switch shipping methods and some of us users got stuck in the middle :P

I don't really mind the price.... at least it's not the $89 they wanted for the Win 98 to Millenium upgrade. That was a joke. But hey - you gotta do what you gotta do. After all, as you said, I'm just happy they're even supporting my 3955 at this time!
