Default WiFi and Memory In One Card

http://www.sandisk.com/consumer/con...ctplus_wifi.asp

SanDisk says that their new 128MB/Wi-Fi compact flash combo card is going to be available on June 16.

"SanDisks Connect Plus 128MB + Wi-Fi CompactFlash card combines flash memory and wireless communications into a single card giving PDA and notebook users, the freedom to quickly transmit and receive data, images and music from thousands of hotspots worldwide."

Up to 11 Mbps High Speed Data Transfer Rate
Free PC Card Adapter for Laptops
Battery optimized for lowest power and highest performance
Powerful and easy to use security feature makes WEP encryption easy
Extends the memory and brings new functionality to the device
Single slot solution - can be used as memory card or Wi-Fi card to store and move files
OS support for laptops (ME, 2000, XP) and PDAs (WinCE3.0 and above)

This is pretty exciting for anybody with a Pocket PC that has only a CF expansion slot, because it lets you work wirelessly without sacrificing access to your stored data and applications. I really like my SanDisk low power Wireless LAN Card, so I'm expecting the new combo card to be just as great. I can't find any pricing information, but SanDisk's regular WLAN card lists for $99.99, so something in the $150 - $200 range is probably what's in store for the combo card.

I hope that doesn't imply that you can't use the card for both storage and WiFi at the same time. That seems like it would be a strange restriction, but I'd like to make sure about it.

This is a great idea....but looks like the length of it will render most cases useless. I'm of the put memory in and leave it category. :?

This won't be for me. My Axim also has an SD slot, besides the CF slot. I already have a Netgear CF 802.11b card, and will NEVER buy another SanDisk product after the failures (note that is plural) of their 128mb SD cards. If they had just admitted they had a bad batch AND replaced them with a good batch, the situation might be different. Maybe PNY will come out with a nice combo card for the people that want one.

No, I'm not implying anything, since I haven't used one yet. I am assuming that you can use both functionalities at the same time.

Oh, I knew that you weren't implying that, Brad. I visited the SanDisk site, and the text you posted is the same text as on their product page.

I just wanted to point out a potential red flag, because I'm concerned with the use of "or" instead of "and" there. It can be an Inclusive OR, meaning both can be used at once, or an Exclusive OR, meaning one but not both. (Reading that precisely is part of my programming training combined with my natural skepticism. :-))

Default great solution

My hats off to sandisk this is a simple but very innovative solution. Definately smart. So how about a memory, bluetooth, wifi card. Then just keep your old Ipaq and call it a new one. Anyways this is cool. Enjoy people that have compact type 2 i still get to enjoy a non-SDIO slot.
