Default Do Not Edit Polls After Posting

There appears to be a bug in phpBB whereby, if a poll is edited after it has had one or more responses, the poll may disappear entirely. This is beyond our ability to control or fix - I can only hope that the phpBB people will address this in an upcoming release. So, if you want to keep your poll alive, don't edit it.

Well, if you think about it, there's no truly general solution to this problem. If you change a poll, the voting on it is likely to change, as people have more or different choices to make. So, I'm not sure there's really a solution they could implement.

Right - people should not be changing poll questions anyway. But at the very least they could add a warning saying the poll will be destroyed, or not allow it to be changed at all. That would be nice. :-)

Yup

With vBulletin you can change polls after they are up. We have had people change th voting options after the voting has begun at Passion, and almost evertime the issue comes up...."I would have voted differently if I had the chance."......here that's called "whining" <joke> Sorry couldn't help myself.

I think it works slicker if you leave the polls alone.

I PMed Jason about this after my \Just chatting\Why aren't YOU buying more ebooks? thread lost its poll. I looked at the phpBB faq, it makes clear that you cannot change a poll once people start voting.

<smacks forehead> Waitaminute. I changed the original post here:

I saw nowhere to change the poll, but ... I wonder ... if changing the original post also nukes hte poll ("yeah, that'd be a bug"). I hope there are no objections but I'd like to try. I'll do a placebo post in off-topic. It can be deleted later. Or embalmed for the edification of All Who Come Later.

Confirmed, Houston. Editing the initial post in phpBB deletes the poll. Blech. Nasty bug. phpBB can bite me.

So Jason didn't start this thread just to stop people whining "Why don't you add this?" about his polls? ;-)
