Default Skweezer Takes the Headache Out of Wireless Web Browsing

http://www.greenlightwireless.net/s...es/skweezer.asp

"Finally there is a solution that makes browsing the Internet with a handheld device faster, easier, and better. Skweezer uses our powerful handheld rendering technology to optimize Web content for your wireless-ready PDA or SmartPhone, dynamically reformatting Web pages so that they're easier to view, load faster, and have a smaller file-size. Benefits of using Skweezer:

Content is reformatted to reduce or eliminate side-to-side scrolling
Web pages load faster over slow wireless connections
Users paying per-kilobit charges for wireless browsing services save money, as "skweezed" pages have reduced file size
Full Internet access, unlike services that allow access only to a list of "approved" sites (e.g. Sprint)
Multiple page view modes available using the Viewbar
Skweezer is easy to use, simply go to www.skweezer.net on your handheld's browser to access the service
Enhanced security as browsing is done behind 128-bit secure servers
No software to download, install, or update and it doesn't use any of your PDA's limited hard drive space
Can be used on any handheld device that can load a Web page, regardless of platform
Cookies are stored on our secure servers, maintaining your privacy
Your Skweezer service is updated to the latest version automatically and at no charge
Included suite of tools specifically designed for handheld Web browsing"

They have a free 30-day trial you can sign up for. I haven't tried the service yet, but I'm interested to know what others think of it.

I've been testing the opera browser on the SE P800 for the past 3 weeks. I LOVE IT! It looks very similar to this product except that the opera browser is free and there is no proxy in the middle (except for the rendering engine itself which seems to act as a proxy to reformat the page). It's very fast too.

I wonder how fast this product is with the proxy in the middle. I gave up on the thunderhawk product as it was unreliable, too slow and non-standards conformant.

I like the one handed operation that is possible on the P800 but also like the screen real-estate on the PPC PE.

Hmmm....

It seems to work simply by removing tables..... or at least that's one of the things it does.

If you turn off tables and turn on "wrap content" in netfront, pages seem to look pretty much the same as with Skweezer. I haven't tried the 30-day trial (it seems you have to buy it for 1 year and you get the first month 'free'), but if you visit their page on your ppc, it's Skweezed and looks pretty much the same as if you turn off tables in netfront and view the page.... of course if you use the service it's does it's stuff server-side so you don't have to transfer as much info to your pocket pc, but Netfront is good enough for me and my wifi.

It's $9.99 for a whole YEAR, so you're paying 83 cents a month. You're actually complaining about 83 cents?? They're running proxy servers to handle this, which means they have recurring costs - seems fair that they should make this a subscription service. I think the price is VERY reasonable!

Good point Jason.
Not everything can be free, (though this is as close as it gets!).

Is this very similar to Thunderhawk?? If so, it would be a lot less expensive alternative for browsing on the PDA, etc.

I will have to give this a try sometime soon.

Send a message via AIM to Kaber

A free month, and then $10 to continue service for a year. Thats a swell deal. I'm definately gonna give this a swing.
