1GB - That is Gigabyte - Of RAM on my iPAQ 3900!
I have a friend that works at the local Dell plant here in Nashville TN with a degree in Computer Engineering and specializes in RAM. He did some work with HP on the Jornada 540 series a few years ago and knows a little about RAM and the Pocket PC OS.
He performed surgery on his iPAQ 3900 a week or so ago and has had no issues and offered to do mine this past weekend. I picked it up on the way home last night. The only side effect is the memory slider cannot be moved due to the way the Windows CE kernel accesses memory, it is fixed at roughly 512MB per side - storage and program memory. The next step is writing a driver that can take that 512MB of program memory and cut it down to 64MB or so and turn the balance into another storage partition, sort of like a file store. He has already started on it and should be ready to test on his iPAQ in the next few days. He has no word on pricing yet, but it won't be cheap. You could probably buy an iPAQ 5450 and have enough left over for a 512MB SD card for what this upgrade will cost just because of the expense of the RAM itself. Still, if you have to have RAM, this could be the ticket. He expects to have everything nailed down in the next two to three weeks. I'll be able to provide a link at that time which will have final pricing and exactly what devices are upgradable.

WOW!!!! 8O
what do we need memory expansion slots for???
well... with this...installing program in SD card will be a thing of the past...
and also, my pocket will be so empty that I won't have money left to buy food...
PS: How long does it take you to make this screen shot? Very convincing I have to say...

Sounds great, and expensive. How badly do you think the battery will be affected??? Would be quite interesting...

Ha!
Cute. Also, the "Palm rulez" over PPCT logo made my laugh out loud
On a serious note, if it were actually possible to stuff this much RAM into a current iPAQ, it would probably suck the battery dry in about an hour
Cheers,
Rok

How does having more RAM lower battery life? I would think it wouldn't be much different than having a 1GB CF card installed. Actually I would think it would be better than a storage card, because the access times would be less processor intensive.
