ZDNet Handheld SuperCenter

On ZDNet they've compiled a list of several handhelds, giving you access to their reviews and price comparison. The list that shows up on the linked page is not all to this Handheld SuperCenter, you'll see links to the most popular handhelds of the week that shows among others the Dell Axim that is missing from the first list.

I thought that the Toshiba e310 was a popular handheld, yet there is no mention of it on the site.

You need to go to the second page of the list. The e310 was #12.
Also, if you use the link Marlof provided in the headline, there are three mentions of the e310 on that page. It seems there are plenty of references to the e310 on the site. :-)

Maybe they couldn't figure out if the Axim was a high-end PDA, a midrange or a bargain. :-)
I thought that maybe they hadn't reviewed it yet, but they have reviewed both the 300 MHz Axim and the 400 MHz Axim. Stangely, the 300 MHz Axim only got a 7 for design, while the 400 MHz version got an 8. I thought the only differences were internal -- the chip speed and the ROM size -- while the physical designs were the same. :?:

I never put much stock in ZDnet or (when it was independent) CNet when it comes to PPC reviews. I always get the feeling that the person writing the article is not much of a PPC user.

Right, but when someone wants to buy a handheld, they want to know how well it will fit their needs and how easily the system can be learned from a non-user. To us 'seasoned' Pocket PC users, we can see things that the ordinary customer would overlook. However, it would be nice if they used the same person to review all the models as to give a better comparison between models.

My comment was only meant from a personal point of view, but to take this point-of-view for second...
I do agree that this "newbie" approach to reviewing a device may appeal to some, BUT you know as well as I do that any typical newbie looking for a PDA will react far differently to the PPC being demo'd by your everyday retail store employee vs someone like, say, Dale Coffing (I only mention him b/c I know he was in stores demo'ing last x-mas season).
In the end, most of these reviews sound more-or-less to me like they came from a typical retail employee.
