Default A New R-PDA - Or As I Like To Call It - The Return of Tacfire

Earlier this week I showed you the R-PDA from Talla-Tech. Well, that was so 2001. This is 2003 and our military clearly deserves better than that. So here we have the all new R-PDA from Talla-Tech. This one sports:

 400MHz X-Scale, 64MB RAM, 32MB ROM (48MB in the bluetooth model)
 Pocket PC 2002
External battery pack capable of holding 8 AAs or the BA5800 battery pack.
 Embedded Military GPS
One PCMCIA III or dual PCMCIA II/I cards.
Of course, what R-PDA would be complete without the Tacfire communication protocol?

This is basically the internals of the iPAQ 3900 ripped out and surrounded with a rugged shell. The iPAQ 3000 series devices have proven to be extremely versatile since their introduction in 2000. I don't think an iPAQ has been on a space shuttle yet, but that is about the only place on Earth or around Earth they haven't gone.

A PDF file is available here. It is also discussed in this Business 2.0 article in the "Networking" section. This R-PDA is expected to be available later this month.

Default PDA in space

When our first astronaut went into space it was mentioned he took a number of gadgets with him, including some microdrives and a PDA to record and sync his results from test he did in zero gravity. I don't remember what kind of PDA it was but it may have been a PALM. Anyway, a report of at least one PDA working in zero gravity.

This probably won't be for public release, will it? I knew I got out too early...
