Default Outlook Duplicates Remover Review

http://www.pdajunkie.net/pdajunkie_net_odr.htm

"If you are a PDA enthusiast like I am, you undoubtedly have more than one PDA (whether it be Pocket PC, Palm, Blackberry, or Psion), and you will probably synchronize at more than one computer (work and home, for example). One of the most irritating things that crop up when a user syncs multiple PDA's at multiple locations are duplicate items. Duplicates can most often occur when you either sync at both work and home, or you sync multiple PDA's with different sync software on the same computer. Luckily, there is a "prayerware" (freeware) application called Outlook Duplicates Remover (ODR). Father Simon Rundell of the Church of England (who not only is a priest, but is an avid programmer and a former Intensive Care nurse in the U.K.) has written a wonderful program that will seek out and eliminate those nasty duplicate items that crop up on your Outlook folders."

Full replication between two machines is something I gave up on so long ago after I switched to PPC. It was so seamlessly easy on my old Palm and so frustratingly difficult with the PPC.

I may try again with these utilities, but I'm crossing my fingers that the next AS (which I assume would ship with the next OS) can handle multiple synch's.

While this software is great, I do think it is obnoxious that ActiveSync cannot handle this on its own. Why not add a Pocket PC overwrite PC option for syncing too? That would have saved my butt many times... guess they call it ActiveStink for a reason

The primary problem that's encountered by ODR is not necessarily the algorithm, it's the .PST database format overall.

PST files are nothing more than a huge (well, huge in my case) sequential database. Since ODR utilizes all of the Outlook .DLL files for controlling and checking against the PST file (and subsequently, Exchange servers), it's going to be limited by what Outlook itself can provide ODR.

Yes, but does it conform to the GPL?

Well other software handles the same PST file (outlook database) much much quicker.

Such as what?...and which is most accurate in deleting dupes (without wrongful deletes) - this may be more important than which is fastest, since it is an app which is largely self-running...or am I missing something?
