Toshiba Releasing $199 Pocket PC? Maybe, Maybe Not...
Looks like DigiTimes jumped the gun too early.
"We corrected this article on February 18. It should not have read that Toshiba would launch a US$199 PDA in March but that according to sources the company is considering such a move. Toshiba, opening the door for sub-US$400 Pocket PCs last June, is considering launching a new Pocket PC priced as low as US$199 in March or April, sources said. The company, however, has denied the news."
Well, we can still hope, can't we? It looks like the e350 is still going to be manufactured - but we don't know what the price will be. Maybe they don't want to spill the beans...

More like they were either harshed by Toshiba for breaking the news and had to retract their definitive statement for a more jornalisticly-objective one.

Also, the Dell went back on sale today @ $199 after rebate (and $299 for the Advanced). Don't get me wrong, that's not a correction to their article, because it was accurate when they wrote it on 2-14 (and corrected it on 2-18). But it sures solidifies Dell's place as the low-cost PPC leader.
When oh when will someone step up and match/beat them. A guy can wish can't he?

Looks like a lot of people have been letting just one or two beans slip. Seems as if some MS PR Rep has been very busy over the past few days. Unfortunatly it's all silly, because some manufacturing Sales Rep, is going to spill the beans over the next week or two and it's all going to be out in the open anyway.
If the release were months away, MS wouldn't be telling 100's of MVP's. Statements wouldn't be rectracting. Dell wouln't be on sale again. The time is near!

1. If they deny it and the lawyers come down hard, it must be true.
2. if the MVP are all quiet. It's even truer.
...... listen to the great sounds of silence, crickets and tumble weeds
ahh.. that's the truth we are hearing. :P

FWIW, we didn't hear a peep about any new Toshiba devices.

If the price is incorrect, it might be good news. The suspicion of the $199 price-tag was that it was going to be a side-lit reflective screen. A lot of people are spoiled by the new screens (me included, with my Jornada 568) and it could be that the new Toshiba will be a real contender to the iPaq 1910.

Harder for MS to leak Toshiba info, than their own.

Yup, very true - MS rarely tell us about OEM hardware. I just wanted to point out that MVPs don't get told EVERYTHING like some people think. ;-)
