Default Clear Speed Version 2.0 Released!

http://www.revolution.cx

"Revolutionary Software Front has released version 2.0 of their utility for the HP IPAQ 1910 that makes it run up to 50% faster with the tap of a button.

Using the advanced performance capabilities of the XScale CPU, Clear Speed boosts application performance from 30-50% in most cases. Multimedia applications enjoy a marked improvement, making games run faster and movies play more smoothly. Opening Contacts, Inbox and Calendar are faster than before and all aspects of the device respond more quickly.

Version 2.0 is a FREE upgrade and adds many new options such as:
- New speed settings that allow for longer battery life than a normal iPaq 1910.
- The ability to set different speeds for different programs.
- Automatic scaling of speed when needed by the device.
- Dynamic display and adjustment of speed via an icon in the navigation bar.
- Reduction of speed and backlight level based on remaining battery power.

Currently Clear Speed only works on the iPaq 1910 but support for the Dell Axim series and the Toshiba e740 is coming soon."

Clear Speed is available now for $9.99 from the Revolutionary Software Front website.

Well, it works, I don't care how I've been using 2.0 since last week.

I have my games set to run at full speed 300MHz Clock/150MHz Memory. The default is set to 200MHz Clock/100MHz Memory.

So when I start Hexacto Baseball Addict for example, it automatically jumps from 200 to 300. When I exit out of the game, it drops down to 200MHz again.

Default RE:drawbacks..

I'm not sure about the memory speed jumping to 150 MHz, but as for the XScale speed, that is a feature called, "Turbo" mode that is built into the chip. There is a specific registry-key that indicates a clock-multiplier at which to run the processor, and it's this value being manipulated.

The Viewsonic and Dell Axim (low end) both take advantage of this to offer their "300 MHz" devices. ClearSpeed isn't the only app that offers this - I use TurboTray, a free app, to run my 1910 at 300 MHz also.

TurboTray doesn't adjust the speed automatically, or allow you to specify different modes for different games, etc., it just gives you an icon (at the bottom, which is only visible on the Today screen - but I like that) which lets you step thru whatever modes you have set up as "allowed".

I have mine to step from 100 MHz - 200 MHz - 300 MHz (although I generally use it at 300, since it's snappier, and reminds me of my old iPaq 3630).

If they (Clear Speed) really can run the memory-bus at 150 MHz, that would be a major improvement - there was an excellent article on here (PPC Thoughts) about how the 100 MHz memory-bus-speed was a major bottleneck with the new XScale-based PPCs. Maybe the TurboTray creator will build this into his software also...hmm....

Well, you should read up on the app then

Clearspeed 2.0 has four operating modes:

100/100
200/100
300/100
300/150
