Default 1 GB CompactFlash for $139.99 after Rebate - Today Only!

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/r...669496/br%3D1-6

$200 or so wasn't cheap enough for you? Well, Amazon and Sandisk are having a crazy rebate on these cards - I can't believe how low this is! The card is $224.99, and there's a $75 mail in rebate. Get an additional $10-off coupon from this Brighthand thread. Here's the catch: the $75 rebate has to be post-marked 2/8...which is TODAY. Act fast, and get this awesome deal! (which just happens to be an affiliate link...)

UPDATE: I was a little incorrect. You have to buy the card TODAY, but you have until 3/8 to send in the rebate.

Correction: purchase must be by 2/8, and rebate must be postmarked by 3/8

No, we must purchase on or before Feb. 8 and postmark the rebate envelope by Mar. 8.
I just took advantage of this GREAT deal. However, usually when a company is offering rebates on their products, it means either they are coming out with new stuff, or they are going to lower their prices soon. Think that's happening in this case?

No, the purchase must be made by 2/8/2003, so make sure your order is in today, latest tomorrow.

The rebate must be postmarked by 3/8/2003. If you are not certain that the item gets to you in time, then pay a few bucks for faster shipping to make sure you can send out your rebate form by 3/8/2003.

Beat me to the punch. 8)

I do think that something new is coming. In fact, Sandisk already announced WiFi CF and SD cards that have memory built in, both in the $150 range.

You also have the cards breaking the 1GB barrier (I believe Pretec has 3GB coming out soon). Plus, SD cards are coming down in price, so CF must follow suit. Another thing is that this Sandisk card (not the Ultra series) has a pretty slow read/write speeds, but for PPC use I think it is sufficent. For a 4+MP digicam, it may be a bit slow, especially for RAW images.

For me, this is just too good a deal to pass up, about 14 cents/MB. Then again, I thought the same thing when I bought my Viking 512MB CF 2 months ago for $180 - $50 rebate = $130.

How do mail-in rebates work? My mum's going to the United States in a week and will be staying there for 2 weeks. I was just wondering whether she would be able to buy the compact flash card on her credit card and then get the mail-in rebate sent to her while she's there? How does these things work?

Thanks!

What the deal with all these mail-in rebates? I know HOW they work but why? Not something we get in the UK.

These deals are usually US only. :x (Is that the purpose of the rebate?) What happened to the internet and the global marketplace?

Generally speaking, the take-up rate is apparently about 5%. This means a good deal for the consumers that can be bothered to take them up, and saves the manufacturers money that they'd definately lose if they simply lowered the price. That's the "why".

This rebate seems straightforward, a lot of the UK ones tend to be for extended warranties/insurance e.g. insure your vacuum cleaner for five years for 60, refunded if never used. BUT you need to keep the receipt and mail it in within 1 month after the five years is up - I doubt 5% of people manage that! That said, alarmed events in PocketPFC/Outlook can be put to good use here.

blus, rebates usualy take a minimum of 4 weeks... and maxiumum of 8, more if you are unlucky. (ie tiger direct rebates are the worst... 3 months, if you get it at all)

this is a great steal but..damn.. I dont have any need for it. all my memory needs are satisfied with a 256 meg flash and 128meg SD. ^^
