XCPUScalar for 400MHz Pocket PCs
Seems like the XScale-scaling market is rapidly expanding. ImmierSoft has released a product that lets you scale your 400MHz CPU from anywhere between 100MHz and 472MHz. It has apparently been tested on the HP iPaq 3955, 5455 and Toshiba e740 units, but theoretically will support any 400MHz XScale unit.

Nice, I could use that 472mhz processing power for my PIM now!
(I have Pocket Informant, the slowest PIM in the world)
This sounds really good. I'm sure we all could def. use that 100mhz for extra battery life. I'm really glad to see so many apps like this which allow overclocking/underclocking processors.

For now, Pocket Hack Master, as you can tweak so much more. But if you don't plan to do that, XCPUScalar is perfectly fine.

Does anyone have any benchmarks on how 472mhz compares to 400mhz and is the speed @ 472 anywhere near 206mhz ARM (because @ 400mhz it's slower)

Which PDAs are compatible?
Could these programs be used with the Viewsonic V35?
I haven't had any major speed problems, but do sometimes get delays.

Alright folks, read the 40 some page thread over at Brighthand for a lot of the answers you're going to ask.
First off, there's a lot of 472 mhz benchmarks over there. It rocks, a real increase not only in the benches but in actual usage. Dropped frames in Pocket MVP drops like a stone and frame rate sometimes goes up a good 5+ points.
Bad side effects... well, if this works the same way as Hack Master then there could be. I believe it changes one of the L codes which could possilby lead to a shorter screen life. It seems harmless now, but there's not enough evidence one way or the other just yet... so buyer beware.
As for Hack Master vs this... I say go with Hack Master. The Dev himself has been working for like the last 3-4 days straight, non-stop with the community putting features in and bug fixing faster than you would believe.
To test if this kinda thing might work for you, look for the freeware program SpeedStepper. It has a 472mhz mode too and if that locks, this and Hack Master probably will too.
Be VERY careful testing these programs, you could damage your device and you WILL have to hard reset if it locks up bad enough.
Finally, and I'm sorry to say right now the 400mhz Axim looks like it's not going to use the 472 mode. Myself and at least two other owners can't get it to do a dang thing but lock up. Sorry. (Though 300 seems overclock to 400 I think.)
PS... you're going to see a ton of these shortly. Expect a ton of dime a dozen clones from lazy "programmers" taking free source code and turning it into an app. From PocketGamer.org:
"If, on the other hand, you're interested in writing your own XScale speed-up utility, the Speed Stepper source code has now been made public."

I tried this on my Axim and indeed, got lockups at 472.
BUT I thought, why not give 500 a go anyway - you never know......
AND it works! 8O
So now I do the same as Rirath - below 25% it's at 100Mhz and above that it runs at 500 Mhz. It does feel snappier. Very good.!

I bought and used Pocket Hackmaster for my 5455 when it first came out and kept getting lockups that required hard reset after hard reset and finally gave up on it. Last week I purchased xcpuscalar from http://immiersoft.pocketmatrix.com/index.html and it works flawlessly, no hard reset or lockups what-so-ever. One real life benchmark is: If you ever played Pocket Everquest on your PPC then you would have noticed a slight hiccup at times especially while just walking along, well with the xcpuscalar set to 472 MHZ it is smooth sailing.
Just my 2 cents.
