Default iPAQ 1910 Speed Hack

http://discussion.brighthand.com/sh...&threadid=69907

In this discussion thread over at Brighthand, there's someone who has created an iPAQ 1910 over/underclocking utility, and he's giving it away for free. Nice to see so many people in the community rallying around an idea and creating all manner of software products for it, from freeware to polished commercial software. Great work everyone!

I've been kinda following this for the last few days. It appears that the 1910 has the 300mhz Xscale processor in it. As memory serves me Intel said they were only going to produce two processors the 300mhz, and the 400mhz. Sorry the actual numbers escape me at the moment. So, I'm not surprised to hear it can me "overclocked. Or I guess if this is all actually true then it is being "un-underclocked".

What I don't understand is whay HP would underclock it. The change in battery life from what I have seen posted so far is only about 20 minutes over a full charge. Are there some logical reasons for this? Or am I all wrong on this, and maybe I should go back out and continue making stuff out of wood, which I know more about.

The consensus at Brighthand on the 'underclocking' issue is marketing. HP didn't want to make the h1910 attractive to potential 5450 customers.

Some how at least IMO HP has a better understanding of their marketing then that. I doubt many would choose the 1910 over the 5450 if they were simply running at the same speed. I think those people buying the 5450 over 1910 are doing so because of the many added features. Just my opinion but I think there has to be a better explanation then that.
