New Years Traffic
I promised a quick post about what happened when 1000's of you slammed our servers on New Years Eve and New Years Day, so here's the stats:
19.69 GB of bandwidth consumed (average is about 6 GB per day)* 38,021 user sessions 1.09 million page views (average is about 300K per day) 3.9 million hits Apache/MySQL restarts: 15 times that I have on record, but I was only added to the "restart alias" at noon on the 1st, so it's probably more like 30 times.
A good time was had by all - we'll definitely do it again next year, but we'll put some more thought into it before hand to make sure everything is fair, and unfortunately we'll have to add some rules so people understand this is just for fun.
*As a side note, bandwidth consumed on the 2nd and 3rd of January was insanely high as well, topping 13 GB per day. I think everyone was coming back to see if they won the prizes. ;-)

Yowza. Show the industry those specs and then you can call them fools for the fear/loathing thing

Jason, you sure you don't already have that media conglomerate? Keep this up and we'll be up there alongside with Yahoo and Google. The server will be toast, but who cares?

Kudos to you, Jason! It was a real kick seeing how excited everybody was getting and much interest in Pocket PCs the contests generated.
Thanks, again.
