Evolution Mobile Location Based Listings and Maps

MyMobileStuff has released eVmO, a location based service for your Pocket PC. You can enter your zip code or several zip codes so you can quickly switch among locations you are at. It works with MapQuest to get you to your destination. ClearType and bookmarks are supported. This is another great service for your Pocket PC - especially those with either a Pocket PC Phone or a Pocket PC wirelessly connected to your cell phone as you travel! In my tests, it was more than acceptable over a GPRS connection. 8)

I have been using evmo services daily for a while now and it is pretty good, I use CDMA(Sprint) and I'm happy with the speed too.

This looks kind of neat, except I don't see an easy way to temporarily change your location without entering the zip code, which I probably wouldn't know.
It would be handy, when driving, if you could enter your location by an address you're driving past, or an upcoming highway exit, to see what's nearby. I already pretty much know where everything is in my own zip code.

I have been using this as my home page on my T-Mobile Sidekick for a couple of weeks now. I didn't know that you could add multiple locations until I read Ed's post, but I went back, and sure enough - you can add more than one location. It's not limited to just zip code, either - you give it a street address within the zip code, for even more location-based precision goodness. :-)
To add a new location, click on the zip code on the main page, then scroll down, fill in the zip code and street address (no city, state necessary), and click Add.
To switch locations, click on the zip code on the main page, then click the little "target" icon for the location you want to switch to.
To delete a location, click on the zip code on the main page, then click the little garbage can icon for the location you want to delete.
If you have cookies enabled, it remembers your sign in (at least, it does on my Sidekick), and they must have set the page to never expire, because I never have to wait for the page to reload when I go there (unless I force a refresh). That's one complaint I had with other sites I used as a home page, that were more or less static. There was no reason to force a fresh load each time, but most of them do. EvMo loads a LOT faster, because it's loading from cache, and I love it!

Hmm, it's like Vindigo, without the ratings on the services you can find. This has an advantage that you don't need to be in a city that Vindigo supports (San Francisco, East Bay), but on zip codes and you can get maps. I might have to pick this up.

Unlike MyMobileStuff.com... Evmo does not use images for navigation. And that's a good thing! Shut off images and you get faster load times and the same amount of functionality. Woo Hoo!

I seldom know the zip code of an area through which I'm driving. When I do know the zip code I don't know its boundaries.

Actually, there's not really anything to "pick up" - this is just a website, and it's completely free. Apparently, www.mymobilestuff.com either evolved into or was purchased by Evolution Mobile. I first noticed this when I went to www.mymobilestuff.com, and got redirected here.
They have a nice "demo" on their site, where you can simulate using the site on a Pocket PC (the content is all live, though). There's also a Palm version of the site at www.evmo.com/palm. The only difference I have found is that the Palm version has a check box by the search box at the bottom of the page that allows you to do a "Directory Search", supposedly to limit your search to just MyMobileStuff (which, I'm happy to note, are still available), or maybe the services directory.
This appears to give a slight advantage to the Palm version of the page, as I found no such functionality on the Pocket PC version. I'm using the Palm version on my Sidekick as a result.

Good point. I haven't found a way around this when entering an address - zip code seems to be required. Anyone know of any workarounds?
Maybe the collective voices of PPCThoughts readers could petition them to allow street/city/state address entry.
