Default New Version of Pocket IP 1.02

http://www.conduits.com/products/apps/ip2.asp

Attention network administrators! Pocket IP 1.02 from Conduits now offers an "enhanced CIDR dialog, for more fine-grained control over Internet Protocol address subnetting! The CIDR network calculations are now amended to permit 1 through 30 network bits! Upgrades are quick and seamless! Simply install the new version on top of your current version, and the product will automatically upgrade."

Internet Protocol Address Subnetting. Being a developer I only have a vague idea... What about you?

I realise that you've put a smiley in, but that only served to further confuse me as to whether or not this was a rhetorical question.

I was going to write a long explanation but decided it would be easier to provide some pointers.

Here is an explanation of IP addressing: http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/...addressing.asp

Here is a short explanation of CIDR: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/C/CIDR.html

I can provide a fuller explanation of CIDR if anyone wants it.

I'm a developer too, but I know what subnetting is. Supernetting, on the other hand, is new to me. I learn something new every day on PPCT!

Looks cool! I don't think I'll use it enough to justify spending US$10 on it though... what little I do can be pretty easily accomplished with a plain ol' calculator...

Doesn't vxUtil (freeware IP toolkit) do this?

Hmm, 65% understand subnetting? Does this mean they know how to enter a subnet mask or they truly understand CIDR itself?

Next networking question of the day: how many people understand BGP4? (No-one, did you say? )

I understand how the protocol works in a vague sense... I've never been on a network large enough where I've had to USE BGP4...
