Default Griffin Total Remote Reviewed by PocketPCMinds

http://www.pocketpcminds.com/review...totalremote.php

"The Total Remote combination of hardware and software from Griffin Technology is a very innovative combination that works extremely well. Unlike other remote control for PocketPC software that is out there, the Total Remote package includes a small piece of hardware that plugs into your headphone jack. This departs from other solutions that use the built in IR port (although TR can use that too) or use a device which plugs into your CF slot. Yes, thats right, TR uses your headphone jack! What a concept! Through some miracle of modern technology, TR uses specially coded sounds to drive the two IR transmitters bundled in the device. Im no IR transmitter/light bulb/thingamabob expert, but these things are massive. They are bigger than the ones that are built into most of my actual remotes."

I'm hoping someone can get past the limitation in the 3900 that's stopping 3rd party developers from using the CIR port. Nevo is just too slow, and too flashy for my tastes. I'd be grabbing this thing in a second if 1. other programs already had support for it or 2. bootup wasn't so slow. With that kind of startup time, it greatly decreases the use for it.

If what I remember serves me right, the CIR port is tied to a diode, which only Nevo is able to access, in a special way. I can't remember the specific, but it makes it look bad for 3rd party apps.

Default PDAWin

I really like the PDAWin TV Remote Controller. It works with just about everything and can use Pronto skins/ CCF files. If they could use the iPaq CIR or this device, it would be perfect.

Finally! I've been looking for a review...

Since the only "cons" about it were software based, they can always be fixed, I suppose. I can't wait to get one... just have to get an ARM PocketPC first.

Looks pretty cool. Downloaded the demo to see if it would work on my old ipaq 3135 since that is greyscale. Worked fine, so will be ordering soon. What a great use for my old PPC now that I have the Dell!
