Default Age of Empires Now Out!

http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...productId=49440

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war - Age of Empires has arrived for your Pocket PC!

"Age of Empires is an epic real-time strategy game spanning 10,000 years, in which players are the guiding spirit in the evolution of small stone age tribes. Starting with minimal resources, players are challenged to build their tribes into great civilizations. Gamers can choose from one of several ways to win the game, including: world domination by conquering enemy civilizations, exploration of the known world and economic victory through the accumulation of wealth."

Beautiful graphics, comprehensive technology tree and dozens of units
 Huge battles of historical conquest.
 All New Roman Architecture

There are quite a few reviews popping up all over the Web: infoSync, Bargain PDA, and UltimatePocket (Google translation from French). It's a little pricey at $29.95, but talk about replayability...

Wow guess what I'm going to be playing around with for the next few days...

but breaking 14MB for a full installation? that's really huge...and for any other game, i would have considered it too huge.

Years ago when I was writing GAPI for Microsoft I cobbled together a screen capture of a 1/4 res Age of Empires screen with a little app on the Pocket PC that allowed you to scroll around it.

Showed that around as eye candy and urged them to do a Pocket PC port of AOE internally. Back then games were still a dirty word so of course that went nowhere.

It was just too huge a project with too small a market for me to make a proposal to do it myself.

I'm glad someone finally did it, good job! (I hope!).

Then there was that first Quake port I did but never released - someone else came along later with theirs.

Then the voxel landscape demo that I didn't do anything with - someone wrote a popular game with the same basic engine.

Oh well, the world belongs to those who finish software and release it....so back to work I go!

PS 14 mb for full install...that's probably pretty good considering the original graphics without cut scenes were close to 100 mb.

Hey game maker guru, can you port A-train for me? Or any simulator game actually. I am sick with all this shoot 'em up game.

That was probably too much information

That said, I too am pretty excited about this. Not only for the game itself but because, and I had never realized it before this either but, this type of game is really well suited for the PDA enviornment so hopefully we'll see more games like this (or at least a red alert port )

Finish and apply marketing. There have been so many stories of good technology that died. Sometimes I miss the days when the hobbyist ran the show. That was before I had a family to support

Runs fine from a SD card. And since the Campains and Scenarios can be installed separately, you can manage your install size.

too bad you can't play over the internet ;-)

Actually the pen interface looks pretty good, and it seems pretty faithful to the origional.
