Default Toshiba e740 for $324.99 after Rebate

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...CE/jasondunn-20

Toshiba continues to up the rebates on their e740 devices, so you know that something is coming down the pipe from them...after a $50 Amazon rebate and a $100 Toshiba rebate, the e740 is a paltry $324.99. Considering it has 64 MB of RAM, built-in WiFi, and a 400 mHZ XScale processor, that's quite a device for $324! (affiliate link)

Ok, I've had it with you North Americans and your cheap prices. You get your PPC stuff so cheap, that it's not even funny anymore.

The prices are much cheaper to start with, and then there are all these rebates.

I just bought a second hand Toshiba e310 for $320. It's retailed here in Finland for $600. You don't want to know what they ask for e740

Overally the prices in Europe are pretty much the same as in North America, but PPC devices are a terrible exception. I just hope that you realise how good you have it there in PocketPC -wise

There certainly could be a market for someone over in the US to ship over some "grey import" Pocket PCs. You could make a reasonable mark-up and still give us Europeans a good deal. Especially as we get things LATER as well as paying more!

I already suggested that to Ed, sadly he rather spends his time and energy in bashing Palm instead of providing us with a service that would be quite lucrative for him

Well, we could just do it informally here. Just arrange with somebody to get one from CompUSA for you, mark it as a "gift" at the post office, and ship it to Finland; you could just pay one of us Yanks via PayPal, or whatever. I think if there's any organized setup, that there would be legal issues, but there's nothing illegal on our end about sending gifts to our beloved friends on the Continent!!

About this e740 deal - this is, basically, like an iPaq 3975 (but I think the screen isn't transflective, so sort of like a 3875 iPaq also), but with DUAL slots - pretty incredible price.

Now that i've played with the back-lit transflective PDAs, though, I really like the fact that they don't suffer from that "Parallex" problem (where it looks like you're writing "above" the screen, so at a slight angle, your stylus isn't where it seems..). With transflective (or any) back-lit screens, the touchscreen is right on top of the display, with no gap for lights, etc.

Still, if I didn't already have 2 V35s on order, and a strong desire for the thin/light PPC, I would totally get this.

I can't say I'd want to bother either especially as anything too organised would, as Kirkaiya says, be awkward legally, but someone else may have more time.

There sure would be need for someone to provide cheap PPC's to Europe. If the price would be the same as in the States, the demand would be huge.

At the current price range they don't attract anyone but enthusiasts and are going to remain this way if the prices don't drop. And they really won't, I've been waiting for two years for the prices to drop even anywhere near to those that you have there.

Surely, with someone purchasing the device there and then supplying in PPC via mail to Europe would mean some diffuculties what it comes to warranty. But I guess it wouldn't really matter. With your price range one could just buy another device and still save money when compared to prices here.

Geez... no kidding!!

I live in Los Angeles but I currently work in Munich, Germany. I own an iPaq3835 which I bought for about $600. A month ago, you could get the 39xx for about the same from the US, but when passing through a tech store in Munich, the asking price was 1200 Euros!! 8O 8O 8O

For those that don't know, there's roughly a 1 to 1 exchange rate between dollars and Euros so that's translates evenly to $1200 for the 39xx!!

Now granted, the store was in an airport and airports are always overinflated, but still, twice the price!!??!!
