Default Dale Coffing Has the Goods...

My good buddy Dale Coffing is always in the right place at the right time. Here's a brief wrap-up of some of the great things he's seen/done/has.

Dale's had some fun playing with the new Dell Axim X5, and has put together a page with some screen shots. This is a photo I've been waiting for myself - a size comparison between the Dell and the 1910. This photo illustrates how very tiny the new Compaq 1910 - somewhat lack luster specs aside, size and looks matter, and the 1910 might be a bigger seller than some of you think. And when you look at the size of the Dell Axim X5, it's very close in size to the normal iPAQ, which no one thinks of as a brick.

Then there's the Las Vegas Pocket PC Fan Fest. Dale didn't take any pictures because he was busy playing MC, but someone posted a few pictures on this thread. Did anyone from Thoughts attend the Fan Fest? If so, please feel free to add your pictures as a response to this thread.

Oh to be Dale Coffing for a week!

It'll be interesting to watch how this plays out. I'm thinking the price difference will be a big win for Dell until the others drop their prices, then features and size will come into play again. I know a lot of folks who bought Palms strictly due to cost...and now they're switching to something that's actually useful.

No pictures this time, my Jornada CF camera just doesn't cut it without a flash. It was fun however - and the Club PocketPC PDA carrying case that was given to prize winners is nice. I only wish I threw darts better.

To think what I could do with his "Air Miles" alone........

I heard he was giving each of his moderators a new 5600 Ipaq, a Tablet PC, and a free trip to next years Comdex. So what are you doing for your guys Jason.

Jason... I think you are so right. A friend of mine, a project manager at a tech company recently made the comment to me that he didn't care what cool built-in wireless connections or biometric devices are included in the PocketPC... he was more concerned with the "look" of the device!!! It had to have a "cool" look, or he wasn't interested.. (Despite my pleas that 48mb of ROM is important for a potential future upgrade, etc.)

So, while I don't expect 5450s to disappear off the shelves too terribly fast, I think I'd be worried that the 1910s will be like the 3630s were when they first came out... scarce...

The size comparison photo is scary, in the sense that there is a big difference. But as we all know, if your needs are less than others, the ipaq is more than enough and the bonus is the small size. I like the Dell but it is too big and reminds me of my old Philips Nino! I think Dell knows that the people who have higher needs will buy their pocketpc and if the price is really low (as indicated on some articles here) then they may get some more individuals. I can't imagine using external products like a WIFI flash card, just a memory card, so the ipaq would win out for myself.
