Default Microsoft Portrait 2.0 Released

http://research.microsoft.com/~jiangli/portrait/

We've reported before about Microsoft Portrait, a really cool research prototype for mobile video communication. A new version is now released. In the new version, more cameras are supported and more picture features are added.
New features include:
Lifeview FlyCAM-CF camera, FlyJacket iCAM, Pretec CompactCamera and Intermec 6651 built-in camera are supported in addition to HP Jornada pocket camera.
Take a Picture function is added. If you take the picture during a connection to your partner, you will be asked whether to send the picture.
Connecting to public SIP servers such as iptel is supported. This enables business applications of the program.
Larger image sizes such as 320x240 and 352x288 are supported in PC version. This not only improves visual experience, but also let the program support firewire cameras and Camcorders that only output video in large image sizes.
Now the PC version is compatible with Windows Messenger 4.7 and MSN Messenger 5.0 (but not MSN Messenger on Windows XP).
Send a File function is added.
A new skin is applied. Now the PC version is compatible with the latest ActiveSkin version 4.25.
If a Pocket PC logs on to an ILS server, the video capacity of the Pocket PC can also be shown in the directory.
Windows CE 4.0 (or WinCE.NET) platform is supported. Please refer to what's new in our web site for details.

Hrm, support for the HP Jornana camera...that reminds me...I know their is a little configuration you can do to make the HP Jornana camera work on the iPAQ, but does that camera just naturally support the iPAQ now since HP owns the iPAQ? If not, maybe they'll start including iPAQ drivers here after the 5000 series is released.

Default Must Have for HPCs

This is great news for me. As a owner of a Intermec 6651, I am glad Portrait finally supports the built-in camera.

As an added bonus, Portrait will also allow me to connect to .NET, and I am able to see all my buddies for MSN Messenger. That allows me to open a CHAT session.

I have been waiting for something like this from the beginning.
