Default Lord of the Rings: The Real DVD Version

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000067DNF/jasondunn-20

I know this is about as off-topic as I can get, but I'm a movie geek and this DVD has been on my wish list for months. I've resisted the temptation to buy the normal DVD and have held out for this Platinum Series Extended Edition. It's being released on November 12th, and contains an amazing four DVDs: discs one and two contain the feature, with an added 30 minutes of extra footage 8O, and discs three and four are crammed full of special features. This is what the DVD medium was made for! Amazon is making this $25.99 package even sweeter though - $10 mail in rebate, and a $10.50 admission for the Two Towers movie due in December. Your net cost after all is said and done? $5.49. 8O Oh to live in the US!

Of course, if you're really hardcore, you won't order anything less than this collectors version. Check out those bookends! My Canadian brethren can also order the Platinum package from Amazon.ca or the collectors edition. And did I mention that Spiderman rocks too? (affiliate links all around)

How annoyed was I when I found out there was a special edition after buying the 'normal' edition.
Now I have to shell out further bucks and seeing that Oz doesn't jump on the 'rebate wagon' anywhere near the likes of our North American friends....
Oh to be stuck on an island....

Yup, it is great to live in the USA

Although, I'm not sure, I loved the movie but it was already pretty long...30 more minutes?!?!?

hmmmm...

The Spider-Man DVD did rock by the way!

That's why I got the "regular" version for free from Blockbuster.

Actually, *you* could have bought the original DVD for not much more (at least in the US):

Circuit City sold the original DVD new for only $15.99 (both widescreen and fullscreen versions). In that DVD, is/was a coupon for a $5 rebate off the extended version to be released in November, making the original DVD price actually $10.99. Given that I was going to at least rent the original DVD if I didn't buy it, the renatal would have cost me around $3.50 for a couple of days, making the actual cost of the standard version DVD $7.49!

Added to that the low Amazon cost of $25.99 for the extended version, minus the free movie ticket (money I would of been spending anyway) it all adds up to a great deal: For right around $30 (US), you get the theatrical release DVD, the extended version DVD, and a movie ticket to the Two Towers......sweeeet.

Don't most movie theaters refuse passes, coupons and, gift certificates for the first week or so of a new release? Of course, this is a good deal even without the free tickets, and personally I'll see it a couple times in the theater anyway.

I plan on holding off until 2004/2005. I'll buy the cheap ones now (well, not $5 after goofy deals) and then buy some $100 mega-collector set when they are all done.

OK, took the plunge.

LOTR and SW2 are on the way. It's the first time I've ordered from Amazon.ca. Actually, it's also the first time I've ordered DVD's online. The price seemed relatively good actually. I've looked before, but found the prices too high. I guess they've come down. Plus I didn't pay anything for shipping so that made a difference I'm sure.

Default Extras in original DVD were disappointing

I purchased the original DVD and much of the extras material was repeated multiple times.
