Default SD WiFi card coming

http://www.sychip.com/wlan-module.html

SyChip has a Secure Digital WiFi card coming. They will have drivers for both Pocket PC and Smartphone devices assuming the device supports SDIO. Unfortunately, several of the SD slots in today's devices do not support SDIO. No word on pricing. It may be here as early as the first quarter of 2003.

 2.1" long
Support for Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows CE 3.0 based devices and higher.
 Ad Hoc and peer-to-peer supported
Reduced power consumption in standby mode. When sending/receiving, power consumption is just under 300mA.
120' indoor and 400' outdoor range at 11Mbps

So how does one know if you have a SD slot that supports SDIO? The Maestro? It's the one I have.

Default How sweet it is

looking forward to ditching my cf version. I have an ipaq so that means i can have my microdrive and wifi in together. hopefully it uses less battery power too.

Hopefully, the offerings from ViewSonic, Razor, and Dell support the SDIO spec. I think they do.

The CF cards all claim about 300' indoors. That is a pretty optimistic spec. Wonder if 120' indoors is as optimistic. Gotta figure it is lower power, so battery life should be better, and Tx power out will of course be lower. Wonder what the real range is.

I guess the next logical question is when will it be available?

Of course, they've just got to come out with Secure Digital Ethernet LAN card now, don't you think? :P

I can just see it. The world's smallest LAN card with the world's biggest dongle.
