Default The Future for the PDA Software Industry

http://www.pdaavenue.com/forum/index.php?board=36;action=display;threadid=1041

Marcus Bankuti, PDA Avenue, has written an interesting article about the future of the PDA software industry. I recommend reading it, and it would be interesting to hear what you all think of the subject!

"So, if the return while decent isnt so in comparison to PC software, why develop for PDAs in the first place? I believe it is for three reasons. First of all, as I mentioned in the previous paragraph, it is not so hard to break in. If you have at least one impressive product for a realistic price, you can become a major developer. Not only will this provide you a future in the PDA industry, but the ability to break into other industries as well. For example, Hexacto plans to develop for the Gameboy Advance. Second, there is less competition to worry about. Even though only a small fraction of people use PDAs, there is less software for them to purchase. Third, the PDA market may just have a bright future ahead. If a software company breaks into the PDA market now, they can remain a big player if the industry becomes popular and more fiercely competitive."

Very interesting.. thanks for the link!

It will be interesting to see what happens if the growth numbers posited in some of the forecasts that have been posted here lately come to pass. Do you think we will still see the number of small developers increase through 2008, or will they be crowded out by bigger PDA software shops springing up to serve the larger PDA user base?
