Review of XDA
http://www.zimac.de/mobile/mobxda.htm
Speaking of Marc Zimmermann: he finally was able to publish his review of the HTC PW10, better known as the O2 XDA and T-Mobile MDA, on his homepage. Read it, and you may understand why Marc is so happy with this device. And not only Marc. I've spent this evening in Essen, joining the Pocket PC User Group Ruhr, and Marc's XDA was liked a lot by the attendees. Somehow this unit has a coolness factor that's beyond the regular PDA scale.

Mossberg weighs in
The guru of personal technology product reviews doesn't seem too impressed. Although, at 4 hours, the battery is better than I thought (don't know if this is a marketing claim or his actual tests though).

Walt is not impressed with anything unless it runs Palm OS. If the device said Handspring Treo on it (with the same features) he would have loved it.

walt is known not to like anything from microsoft (look at his reviews) and it's been said he's very close with jeff hawkins from handspring, and of course the treo is his fav device-- so this type of review was expected. i think most reasonable people have begun to write off walt as an objective reviewer.

Yeah, I also read another review by Jon Fortt of the San Jose Mercury News, and it seemed pretty clear he was also Palm OS biased. However his main objection is that his cellphone is his primary device, and he wants a solution more like a cellphone and less like a PDA. This is a valid point. But for people like me, who view their PDA as the primary device and use the cellphone infrequently, then this is an exciting product.

my major concern about these devices is how they will be perceived on an airplane. i saw another thread somewhere (perhaps here) that in europe, the flight attendents would automatically ask anyone with these XDA-type devices to turn it off and would not listen to any reasoning regarding the device's ability to shut off the antenna while leaving the PPC part enabled.
i can't help but think that such a device will receive the same kind of reception here in the US.

i have over 100k in miles on 2 different airlines, maybe 3 soon. it's never been a problem, ever. i fly more than most people i know, ug.
but here is some advice: don't wave it around and show people, don't ask if it's "okay" to use it even with the cell parts off, keep it in it's case, don't wear a shirt of hat that says "i've got a phone here" you'll be fine.
cheers,
pt

I think most flight attendance is not really aware of the availability of Phone+PDA. Even when I flight Singapore Airlines, it's still fine to use the my iPAQ with GPRS/GSM jacket attached to it.
Singapore Airlines is known to be very strict on handling the cellular phone. They always told the passenger to turn of the phone before entering the plane.
