New Protective iPAQ Case
http://www.proporta.com/detail.asp?id=276
I've always liked the plastic flip case that came with my iPAQ 3870 because it provides decent protection without really increasing the bulk of my device. Starting in August, Proporta will be selling a similar case, but it's made of aluminum.
It's made of aircraft anodized aluminum with a thin neoprene lining and looks classy; the price is listed as 25.49 (Yes, Proporta is in the UK). I'm supposed to be getting one soon, so when it arrives I'll be sure to put it through its paces and post a review.

Now this I like.
Too bad I won't be buying another iPAQ for my next PPC, other wise I'd probably buy one.

Can they...
Can they add a CF slot to that beautiful case? You know, like a silver slider with the flip lid?

Side opening sucks
This sucks...one of the main things i hated about my ipaq 3835 was that tinted plastic sleeve i recieved with it. It opens from the side, which is kinda akward to hold with one hand when you have the cover dangling on the side.
Wish they had made this like the Vaja cases were it flips open from the top. The added benefit to this is, when if I'm out in the sunlight the flipped open cover can provide some shade on the screen. Hence , making the display more visible.
just my 2 cents...

I agree that side-opening cases are not always as convenient. What will either make or break my opinion of the case is whether the "lid" folds back out of the way like the plastic one. I very seldom use my device lying on a table (the device, not me), so if the lid doesn't fold completely out of the way, it'll be useless.

It looks like a nice product and is relativly inexpensive. I'm getting one to check out as well. Proporta also makes a version for the Sony NR-70. I have a feeling they will be working on more if these become a success.

RE: Side opening sucks
To me, as long as it can fold completely behind the unit, I don't mind the side opening approach. An advantage of this is the ability for things to stick out from the top. And I don't necessarily mean PC cards, aircards, etc. It could be your headphone jack, some future SD card that doesn't sit flush, etc.

so... my usual question, does it accomodate silver slider 2?
Or other expansion cards or is this another "naked Ipaq" case as well? I don't know why case mfgs think that we, as Ipaq users, don't use expansion sleeves? We have to use them to be able to use CF or other types of accessories, yet case mfgs only make cases for "naked" Ipaqs and then get snooty when you ask if their case accomodates anything but that.
Well, here's hoping that proporta actually accomodates the Silver Slider 2 but I'm not holding out any hope.
BTW, what's it rating for shock protection from a fall? Sure, it's metal and protects the screen, but what good is a case, if, when I drop it, it jars the unit itself so badly that the Ipaq stops working? Then you've got a really well-covered, brick.
Just wondering.

You bring up an interesting point, though. I do wonder how many people use their iPAQs without any sleeves. I think I'll post a poll on this...
