Default Audiovox folding keyboard now available

http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55531&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

Malacandra posted about this in the forums, but I thought it was worth making front-page news. The Audiovox (and presumably the Toshiba e570) now has a folding keyboard option! The link above goes to the Brighthand discussion thread with images and a review of sorts broken up into multiple posts. I haven't used one of these in person of course, but I wonder about the space in the middle - it seems like it would be a little unnatural to type on.

:x This is great but, why in the heck don't they offer a serial cable for the Maestro? They only have USB. I need a serial cable to connect my GPS reciever. I don't want to fill the CF slot with a serial adapter and I shouldn't have to. I love my Maestro but this single issue will keep from ever buying another Audiovox PDA. It is so frustrating.

Likely because the Audiovox Maesteo is a low-end budget Pocket PC who's primary buyer is making the purchase based on price, not on advanced functionality. Are users like that going to buy an accessory like a serial cable in droves? No way - not enough of that market would need it for Audiovox to bother creating one.

I've been using a Microsoft Natural Keyboard for years. It has a significant gap between the left and right sides of the keyboard. It took me about a week to get used to it, but you could not drag me kicking and screaming back to a regular keyboard now.

I'd have to guess that after a week or two using this keyboard the average user would not notice the gap. This may, however, apply only to touch typists. "Your milage may vary."

[GrammerCop] And by the way, Jason, didn't you mean to type the more grammatically correct ". . . a little unnatural on which to type"? Ending a sentence with a preposition! Tsk! Tsk! [/GrammerCop]

Language is a living thing. It changes over time and becomes bastardized. I write the way I speak, and "on which to type" is not something I would say...unless I was stuck in a 50's re-run of Leave it to Beaver.

They are as likely to buy a serial cable as a keyboard.

What that supposed to change my mind? :? People who are more caught up in the presentation of a concept than the concept itself have my pity.

If you're right, then why don't they have one? Hmm?
