What do you use it for?
I used to keep a daily journal for many years. I recorded the things I did every day. A nice autobiography. I quit doing it and never really started up again.
My question: What would you use journaling software for? I could think of some uses like capturing quotes when reading or jotting down ideas, etc. What do YOU use it for and what would make it worth getting?
To that end, what's a good journal program. The one in the article looks good.

I use it for lots of things. I have a business jornal and a personal journal. Business keeps up with who I call on some issues, things going on in the plant, etc. Helps me with my monthy writeup of company business for the CEO and board.
Personally, I use it for all communications with outside people regarding billing. Phone bill issues, cable company, credit cards, etc. Hotel confirm's, flights booked, etc. It saved me big time on a phone bill when AT&T slammed me for some charges for an addional 9 months after I had cancelled a service. I called them back with the original cancel request. Because I had kept that confirm number in my journal, they reversed all of the charges and it hasn't happened again. Without that confirm number, they would have played dumb and denied it had ever been cancelled.
So, anything that used to go on the back of an envelope or on a post-it-note now goes in my journal.

What's the advantage of Journal software over a bunch of Outlook notes?

It is a database that can be searched and grouped. Sorted by date. Has multiple fields.
If you have 100 entries per year, 100 notes would get to be a bit much IMHO. Plus, Notes dates change as you make changes to them or do a hard reset and restore, so they get out of order. Database records are untouched.
THink about any other info you have. Several dozen tasks that are largely unrelated? Tasks works fine. Several hundred that are interdependant on others? You probably want ListPro to help. Have 5-10 confidential items? Put it in an Excel workbook and password protect it. Have 50 or so? You probably want eWallet to keep everything straignt.
If you only need it 2-3 times a month, Notes are fine. But 10-15 times a month, Notes gets unwieldy.
