Default Pocket Informant 3.1 released

http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&platformId=2&productType=2&catalog=0&sectionId=0&productId=10226

(affiliate link) - Alex Kac over at WebIS has been working diligently on the update to the insanely popular Pocket Informant. Version 3.1 shipped this week. Not a whole lot is new on the UI over the 3.02 version except for this date picker, which shows you 6 months at a time.

There are, however, tons of new things under the hood, as well as minor UI tweaks. To see these other features, changes and fixes, check out the Pocket Informant site.

Default PocketInformant

This program is WONDERFUL. It is clearly what MS should have bundled under the hood of the OS from the beginning.

It is easy to use and effective in communicating the necessary facts in a meaningful manner with little effort on the part of the user.

The author and his team are always listening for suggestions for improvement. They make every effort to honor these suggestions within the confines of the technology and the drivers of the technology.

I agree. It's the best in my opinion. Its incredibly customizable and powerful. It's the datebk of the pocketpc world.

Default Absolutely...

It's the first thing I load on my iPAQ when I hard reset, which is often (because I test a lot, not because of the unit  ).

I tend to disagree. While there could certainly have been some improvements to the builtin apps, both Pocket Informant and Agenda Fusion are too complicated and convoluted to offer a simple approach. They're a PIM power user's dream, but over the top for the average guy.

Default Great program, poor implementation on new date picket

I don't know if I'm the only long-time user of Pocket Informant who feels that the new date picker is completely absurd. I much preferred the old version of one month at a time where I could click through the months (more intuitive, like flipping through a paper planner). Overall, this is a great PIM replacement, though, and the only detractor is this new date picker.

Default I like the new Date Picker

Actually I was one (of others, I am sure) who has requested Alex to free us from having to go back to the originally built-in calendar, any time when in need to instantly check a several month ahead, distant date . The built-in calendar has an yearly view which I kind of use regularly. Now I can save run-time mem space, and remain in PI. I would still prefer an yearly view though

I like the concept, but not the implementation. My preference would be to always have one month of history, the current month and then 4 months into the future.

However, for picking dates for tasks and appointments, you can turn this feature off in the Options. I think it is in the last tab where the reg hacks are. You cannot turn it off to pick a date to view though.

Default Sloppy designed user interface?

Hi!

Is it only me, or are there other users which are annoyed by the sometimes sloppy designed user interface?

e.g.:

- there are missing borders at some GUI elements
- sometimes there are small gaps (1 pixel) between controlls
- the main control (where all the data is displayed) has some pixels left at the border
- the tabs at the bottom of this control sometimes have no border (they are only white rectangles
- also the tabs at the right side of this controll are not 100% PocketPC conform
- the buttons in the menu bar are not centerd vertically
and so on ...

I know this are only verry small aesthetic/cosmetically 'bugs', but for me they are verry annoying. :?

Best wishes,
Martin Gartner

Default PI upgrades

The upgrades are good imporvements on a very usfull application.
I agree the PI is suited more for power users than the built-in pocket outlook.
The improvement I like is the addition of the phone number when making an appointment with a contact.
The saved views are a good feature I will try to utilize.
