Default Is that a BlueSpoon in your ear?

http://www.nextlink.to/default.asp?pID=6&lang_id=uk

Barry Shilmover sent me a link to this product today, and even with the jaded attitude I have towards Bluetooth, it made my heart go pitter-patter. Weighing in at less than 10 grams, and boasting a talk time of up to six hours (and 100 hours of stand-by time), this looks like it could become a killer accessory for mobile phones and Pocket PC Phone Edition devices - assuming the Pocket PCs have the Bluetooth profiles to support it. It uses hearing aid technology, which would explain the size and battery life. I wonder what the sound quality is like?

"BlueSpoon is a wireless headset weighting less than 10 gr. using the Bluetooth standard. The Bluetooth headset is designed to fit any right ear. The light and durable material has been designed for military standards and allows the user to wear the headset for very long periods of time."

Default Critical Mass

Bluetooth adoption is merely a question of critical mass. We can see now that it is picking up momentum.

Expect it to be widely available by Fall. Next year it should become standard on all our little Information gizmos.

Default Optimistic

I have been a pessimist about Bluetooth - especially when it tries to be a LAN interface, but it is these kinds of products and solutions that can make me a believer. BT will be best when products focus on untethering short distance connecting devices.

I would buy a BT phone just to have this kind of product. Small enough not to be noticable and I can keep my phone in my pocket/briefcase. People will really think I am crazy talking to myself!

I would love to have something like this with a BT equipped Smartphone. This would make things so much nicer. Say goodbye to my Jabra.

I wonder how it would compete with the Motorola in terms of sound quality and price...

The Bluespoon is only ten grams, the Motorola is almost thirty. The Bluespoon is only about 35mm in length while the Motorola is fifty or more when the mic is folded out. The Bluespoon is also only half the width of the Motorola, but Im not sure about the thickness between the two, although its clear that this device is much smaller and lighter in every way than the Motorola. Also, according to the specs, the Bluespoon has longer talk time and requires less recharge time, but with the same standby time. Lets hope the Bluespoon is more affordable as well.

So has nextlink ever shipped bluespoon, or has it been in a development/beta cycle in ALL this time? Did they just slap on a new, nicer-looking shell on this (as opposed to the original look)?

I wonder if the Secret Service and all those agencies will be the first to get this, too

I have two problems with this device -

1. It looks as if could fall out of one's ear quite easily.

2. I can't see anything that looks like controls (volume control and 'end call' as a minimum).

These questions may be answered on their web site - but that's inaccesible just now.

Has there been a shipping update? I'd love to get one of these. I just hope it's not outrageously priced.
