Default iPAQ enables a new dining experience in Singapore

http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/life/story/0,1870,127911,00.html?

There are 7 fully independent restaurants, not a food court, that are trying something new. Patrons will be able to order anything from any of the 7 menus no matter which restaurant they are in, via a new $500,000 wireless cross-ordering system, with the iPAQ. The restaurant with the patron gets a 20% cut from the restaurant being ordered from, so they don't see it as competition as much as better service.

I think this is interesting. How many times have you been in a large party that decided on a restaurant that you didn't care for? If this works, this could lead to dining blocks elsewhere in the world where you could go and order just about anything. It is neat that current network technology, and the Pocket PC, are the key enablers to this type of experience.

Operating on a smaller scale are a chain of restaurants with branches all over our island state .

Within the branch i visited, the setup is a 3850 + PC sleeve (1st Generation) + Intel Wireless card. Orders were fulfilled accurately & much faster cos the info from customers are being relayed in real time to both the kitchen & cashier. No cross branches' co-operation ... yet :P!

Sure hope they know what to do when the iPAQs hard-reset unexpectedly!
