Default Toshiba e740 battery life

http://www.sprinklerhead.com/

Jeremiah Owen has published an update on the battery life of his e740. I've asked him to do a modified version of his test so it will jive with my tests, and I'll understand the battery life better. But the words "No impressive gains" spring to mind.

"Well the initial battery numbers are in and...........well they are in line with what I said before. With a looped mp3 play back, screen set to 1/3 brightness, we got a little over 4 hours before it had not enough juice to read from CF anymore. Now before you charge with pitch forks and torches to Intel's front gates let me get more testing done I honestly think the screen and lack of the fact that Windows Media player is not encoded to take advantage of X-Scale features and only use the power needed. Until eiher OS is rewritten to take advantage of these features or we get some new low power screen technology, no one and I mean no one is going to get huge life increases unless they compliment their units with bigger batteries, which by the way Toshiba is planning to do. So the short of it if you can handle current Pocket PC battery life you will be fine with new Toshiba's."

Everyone just keep in mind, playing MP3's through the speaker sucks significantly more juice than through the headphone jack.

Still, it would have been nice to see more life out of it, but then again, do we know how big the Toshiba battery is compared to the iPAQ 3800 or Jornada 560?

It's 1000mah not too large of a pack and honestly using most of the day dropped as much as any other PPC I've used. I just think the screen is a huge drain wheteher bright or not, I would be interested ( as soon as it recharges ) to see what life with the screen off is to see if it's the culprit. Jason email me your method of battery testing and I'll get started when it's done charging.

Default Battery sapping

I wonder what happens with battery life if you add (battery sapping) 802.11 to the test Jeremiah and others?
