Telus launches Velocity Wireless 1xRTT plan
http://www.telusmobility.com/ab/business_solutions/velocity_wireless.shtml
After years of being in "The Wireless Pit of Despair", it looks like there are some interesting options opening up in my area. Today I can get cheap GPRS, and now Telus is offering unlimited data for $50 CND a month. Sweet! The only glitch here is that they don't seem to be offering any 1X CDMA phones, so I have nothing to talk to my Pocket PC. PCMCIA cards and laptops are their focus at the moment, and I'm not aware of any CF 1xRTT cards. Source: Donk, the Magic Llama (I wonder where he carries his phone?)

Sierra Wireless Aircard 555
The Sierra Wireless Aircard 555 is 1xRTT.
If you go to http://www.sierrawireless.com/ , they even mention your Telus provider.

Isn't that Sierra Air Card PCMCIA? I contacted my local Telus provider (Fido has a similar promotion also using the AirCard) and was told there are no plans to roll this out with any type of CF card, only PC. It may be worthwhile to go out and get a PC sleeve for my ipaq. Anyone have an extra one to sell, cheap?

The 520 is wireless ready, but Telus will not be offering any phone/data plans until September, and even if you do get a cable from someone like Supplynet, they won't have 1X data enabled through the phone, so you'll be SOL. Maybe they're trying to work out the data bugs before making it more widely available.
I'm tempted to get the Sierra, but I can't justify the $600 - especially as I know I'll be drooling over some Xscale wireless phone/pda combo in a few months, most likely...

that must be why i CANNOT get 1x speeds thru my ipaq-kyocera phone even though the phone says 1x ready.....its very frustrating to know that my 1x phone is capable of wireless speeds of between 40-86 kbs, while i only get 9.6-13.5 speeds thru my ipaq-phone cable connection..... HELP!!!!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Last I heard the $50.00 a month for all you can eat is for 6 months only, and only available if you by the Sierra Air card from them for $600.00 CDN.........Yes?
After the six months finacing is available if you have the necessary collateral...... house, car, cars (plural) would be better. EXPENSIVE
Heres BellMobilties rates... couldn't find Telus's real quick
1xData $25 - 3MB incl, $10/extra MB
1xData $50 - 10MB incl, $6/extra MB
1xData $100 - 50MB incl, $3/extra MB
Can you say oooch!!

There are some cool Type I CF 1xRTT + CDMA voice cards being worked on by some Korean manufacturers; saw a couple in March at CTIA in Orlando. Kind of like a fat Symbol CF 802.11 card with a headset jack.
What I am really envious of are the flat-rate structures you seem to have there. I'm stuck paying $20 U.S. per month for a whopping 5mb of data; and that $20 is over and above a $100 per month voice plan. Ouch!
