Default Acer n20 and n20w Pocket PC ready to go

http://forums.pdabuzz.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38993

PDABuzz has the scoop on the new Acer n20 and n20w's - the "w" is for wireless, 802.11b integrated in a .5 inch thick device.

Some of the basic stats:
Uses the Intel X-Scale processor, meaning speeds of 200MHz to 400MHz.
 64MB RAM
 1000mAH (n20) or 2000mAH (n20w) removable Lithium Polymer battery
Memory Stick slot - that's right! If this info is correct, and you are a Sony Memory Stick fan, you can now get it in a Pocket PC 2002 device.
Optional expansion sleeves via the Acer Versatile Connector allowing for Compact Flash, PCMCIA, and USB expansion.

UPDATE! There is more info on the n20 here and the n20w here, which includes a shot of the removable battery.

Default n20w not 0.5 inch thick

The n20 model (without integrated 802.11b) is indeed just over 0.5" thick (12.9 mm). However, the n20w model, which includes integrated 802.11b, is much thicker: 0.77" (19.6 mm).

"The 802.11b wireless functionality also directly affects the capacity of the batteries of the two models; while that of the n20 model is 1000 mAH, the n20w has a 2000 mAH. That, again, affects the thickness of the models - where the n20 is 12.9 mm thick, the n20w adds 6.7 mm, bringing it to 19.6 mm."

Hmm, wonder of they will get this any righter than their dumb-as-a-post Travelmate series of notebook PCs? Sorry, but I've had a two year relationship with one, and am all too familiar with the Texas accent of Acer Customer Support. What a mess. Twice I sent it in, and once they even replaced it, but the USB still needs a 7-layer masking tape shim to stay connected, the modem often need three reboots to work, and the whole device is just buggy as heck. I'm also just a bit too familiar with all the user discussion sites...
But hey, maybe they got this thing right! Never mind all the looks of pity I've had from friends when I mention that my notebook's an Acer, the lowered eyes and shaken heads. Maybe they farmed out construction to someone else! Or maybe, just maybe, they have developed a new corporate philosophy, and they are now committed to quality! Or not.

802.11=great for networking, battery sapping, much bigger then Bluetooth chip, no wireless connectitivy anywhere-everywhere, more expensive......
