Speaking of GigaTask...
http://gigatask.com/
Here are some more details about the new software from ThumbsUp!Soft that Sam alluded to.
"GigaTask switches and controls running tasks, and has a whole raft of its own functions. It's really either 'GigaBar Lite', or 'iTask Pro', depending on your bias and experience. It's way less instrusive and intimidating than GigaBar, and way more capable than iTask. In fact, it has GigaBar's full complement of built-in functions, from Screen Capture to entering Ctrl-Characters, but it's no more difficult to configure than iTask. And, it runs on everything, from the antique CE 2.01 B/W units, to the hottest new iPAQ Pocket PC 2002. HPCs too!"
"GigaTask can be used indefinitely in its free form, in its most basic modes. The Pro modes, though, will stop functioning at the end of each month. At that time, you can either download a new copy, or pay ten bucks!"
I personally don't like to leave a bunch of applications running if I don't need them, so I like small utilities like this and PDA Resource's ZapIt! that make closing them simple. It's not quite as convenient as "an X in every corner," but it's the next best thing.

I still want my GigaBar
I'm still waiting for the newest release of GigaBar - they've been saying "Coming soon" for a long time. I love it's customization features - puts all my most frequently used apps and functions within one stroke.

I purchased this last week after Beta testing it for a couple months.
All I can say is I love it!
