Toshiba e740 Pocket PC from Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000658CE/jasonsego
"Mobile Bob" informed me of something very cool tonight - Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for the Toshiba e740! With a 400 mhz Xscale processor, integrated Bluetooth, and dual slots, this device looks like a serious contender. It's everything that some of you wanted the e310 to be! At $599, it's got a decent price tag, and Amazon is offering free shipping. This is an affiliate link, so all orders help to support this site.
Lightweight, thin Pocket PC with 64 MB RAM and 32 MB ROM and blazing fast 400 MHz Xscale processor Dual expansion capabilities: built-in CompactFlash and Secure Digital (SD) slots Integrated wireless Bluetooth and WLAN capabilities 240 x 320 pixel TFT LCD screen displays more than 64,000 colors
And before anyone gets excited, the "WLAN" they're talking about isn't Wifi - as far as I know, they're suggesting that Bluetooth with an access point will turn this into a WLAN device.

Is the integrated BT 'capabilities' as a result of sdio bt card or real integrated into device?

That's a good question the pic shows a Toshiba card (doesn't look like the BT)so maybe it's "integrated" like the microdrive was in their last model? Well I will be finding out soon enough!

Wireless World is Here now.
I just read a note on PDABuzz from a guy in Ireland who had his new bluetooth card hooked up to the site with a 33MZ Sony running an old technology Blazer browser. If that could do that, imagine what this new Toshiba at 400MZ with a real browser could do?
Or a Zaurus with a blue tooth card and Opera.
It is really coming together, this Tech New World. I think Toshiba is really onto something with the e310, e740, and 550G (is that the right name for the new Japanese model with the 4 inch screen?). Splendid products.

Can one expect a real 2 fold increase in speed (400 vs 206)? If so it would be definetely worth it!

@Jason
Why do you think, that the 740 will not have WiFi?
I'm not sure that Toshiba will use the bluetooth for LAN access. The 740 does not even have the LAN profile for bluetooth.

@ I.Bergman
No, you can not expect a real speed increase as long as the software is not rewritten for Xscale.
Tests with the FSC Loox show that you will hardly feel any speed increase.
Engineers from FSC told us, that for now you will get higher performance for games, video and some special apps only.
btw: the Loox does have a bluetooth LAN profile and much more ...

Good sign?
Does availability at Amazon lend any hope that the e740 will be at brick and mortar retailers (Best Buy, CompUSA etc.) ? I know this is the "enterprise" device.

Wow!
The fonts on that screenie entropy1980 posted are incredibly clear. I don't remember ClearType looking *that* clear on my old school iPaq. If that's a real screenie, I'm extremely impressed.
Wonder if it'll hit Aussie shores?
