For a couple of years (going back to the early Palm-size PC days) I thought that in the ActiveSync options where it had the option to add a file, it would simply add the path. I had this concept in my mind of being able to point ActiveSync at any file, even on a network drive, and when ActiveSync fired up it would sync that file. Funny thing is, I never actually tried it - I just assumed it would work that way. Imagine my surprise when last year, for the first time, I realized that ActiveSync wasn't as smart as I hoped it was. Well, this software that I stumbled upon quite randomly seems to address this problem with an elegant solution.
"TCSync allows you to create "sync relationships" between your Activesync "sync folder" and any location on your desktop. TCSync works with Activesync to create multiple three tier replication relationships. When you put your Pocket PC into the sync cradle, Activesync will synchronize the files between your Pocket PC and your desktop "sync folder". TCSync will synchronize files from the desktop "sync folder" to various folders on the desktop. See the diagram below to see how TCSync interacts with your files."
I haven't tried it out, but I'm eager to hear from you if it works the way it says it does.

Oh, this is going to be awesome! I have a bunch of asinine command scripts in NT/XP using Robocopy from the resource kit doing this for me now and it is a major pain keeping everything working. If this works as advertised, I'll be a major league happy camper. 8)

I have NO idea what that means, but if it makes you a happy camper I'm a happy camper too 
I do know that if it means I can sync without having to duplicate files needed to the one folder, i'll be a happy bunny as well as a happy camper though.

You should check out rsync, I'm not sure how many ports are available but this is probably your best bet http://www.rainer-keuchel.de/wince/rsync.html
Its not pretty but you could make it slightly easier to use by using hte hidden registry entries that windowsce.net list for starting programs on activesync connection.

I'm downloading it now but am not going to bother installing it until I get to the office Monday since most of what I want to do is with network shares.
I do have two questions though.
1. Will it work with offline files that Windows XP sync's?
2. Will it remember different Pocket PC profiles? Meaning, can I use this with 2-3 different Pocket PC's I sync with my PC assuming each PPC will not have the same files sync'd to it?

To answer your questions:
1) I am not familar with this feature of windows XP. I primarly use windows 2000, and only use XP when testing software. TCSync will be able to sync any files that you can access from a Windows "Open File" dialog box. This means any files on your C:\, other local hard drives, mapped drives, or network shares.
2) TCSync does not currently support multiple devices on the same computer. This is something that we will try to incorporate into our next version.

Markus, thanks for asking that is a good question.
I'm assuming you are talking about the case of a computer that has multiple Windows CE partnerships synchronized with Activesync.
When you launch TCSync for the first time, you will be presented with a list of all Activesync partnerships on your computer. Once you select the partnership you want TCSync to work with, it will allow you to create "sync relationships" between files inside that device's (the device you selected when you first started TCSync) "sync folder" and the rest of your computer. When Activesync detects that a device has been connected to your computer, TCSync will launch (if you have selected this option from the Options menu). When you click "Sync", TCSync will evaluate all the "sync relationships" and determine which files need updating, and complete the updates.
Lets say for example you have 2 devices called JORNADA and IPAQ that you synchronize with your desktop and you setup TCSync to work with IPAQ. You have created their "Sync Folders" (the folder where Activesync syncs all their files into) in C:\JORNADA Docs\ and C:\IPAQ Docs\ respectively. If I were to then connect the JORNADA to the desktop, Activesync would sync my JORNADA documents with the C:\JORNADA Docs\ folder. If you THEN were to run TCSync, it would simply update files in the C:\IPAQ Docs\ folder, not effecting any files on the JORNADA.
To make a long story short, you can still sync 2 or more devices with your computer, but TCSync is limited to working with only 1 of them.
