Default HP Jornada 575 ?

http://www.infosync.no/news/2002/n/1752.php

Dave Evans, known as Paragon Again at Pocket PC Passion, posted some info on their boards on a few days ago on a new HP Jornada model, presumably called the 575. I'll quote Dave:

"There will likely be two models, both Xscale. One running at 300mhz, and the other at 400mhz. It is possible that they will have SD slots and Bluetooth. The 400mhz model will likely have 128mb of RAM. The form factor and the rest of the hardware looks to be identical. The buttons are a different colour in the pictures, but that seems to be about it.. this is good. All the accessories we have bought for our 560 series should work with them.

Now for the speculation part. If blow up the picture of the 575 with the keyboard you can see that it is connecting to a GPRS internet setting. There are three possibilities here. They are using a PC sled with and Aircard, or there is going to be a GPRS battery, or there is the possibility that it will have built in GPRS data capabilities NO voice unlike the HP928. If you look at the keyboard on the 928 it is different. This makes sense since it is a bit longer than the 560 series. If you look closely though you can see that the existing keyboard might fit if you already have one. Other than these possible changes and the Xscale processor I doubt we will see much else new."

As Jeremiah Owen informed us almost at the same time Dave told us about the thread on Passion, Jrgen Sundgot of infoSync tapped into a different source, and ended up with HP pictures of the same model.

As you can see on the picture ( this is a scaled down version of a high res image on infoSync, so click the title of this post and go there to get a clear view of this one and more ), the buttons and the ring around the d-pad are silver colored this time. But that is not the biggest change.

Jrgen does some deduction based on the images he has: "Further scrutinizing of pictures revealed that the 575 could indeed be used as for cellular communications since one picture showed a corded stereo headset with a microphone attached to the device, and another picture showed a mysterious module that presumably either attaches to the back of the 575, or communicates with it via Bluetooth. The theory was confirmed by a picture that revealed the presence of a cellular network signal strength indicator on the Start menu bar of the device, which only becomes present in the Phone Edition of PPC 2002 if the device is connected to a cellular network in some manner. Most likely, the Jornada 575 will come with a solution similar to the Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX where a module can be attached to the back of the device to add cellular communications capabilities."

I'm suprised the it took this long to get a leak even if some of the information is a bit hazy or off. I read about the new HP Pocket PC from my HP product rep. He asked that I do not share the info, but if you are curious, contact your HP rep for info.

I will not say that what has been reported is not reu, because I don't know. What I will say is that the screen on the second picture on the infosync article appears to be fake. It does have a shadow, but that's easily done in Photoshop.

I hope this is true though.

I'm sure that this info is more than just a lttle hazy or off since most of it is based on rumor and as I said on what I had posted at pPCp, it was pure speculation.

As for the pictures being doctored I'm sure they are... does McDonalds ever show a picture of a real hamburg in their adds. If I'm doing the marketing for something like this I think I would be pasteing a good picture of the screen into it as opposed to using the real one that you would not likely be able to see at all.

I know the next question is... are any of McDonalds hamburgs real... not just the pictures?

I wonder if this model will have a metal case, or just painted plastic like the 56x series. And what about the "dust" issue? Did HP fix that? :?

Does anyone want to speculate why these things haven't been announced yet. You would think that they would be out with them by now. I can't see it having anything to do with the merger. If they were to just plain stop announcing new products til it was all settled I think HP and Compaq would be dead in the water... it could be years....damm, should have been a corporate lawyer.

Is there maybe a problem with the Xscale processor? Even those who had announced Xscale devices seem to be backing up a little, and I have seen reports of Intel having problems supplying them. I seem to remember reading something about someone using a preproduction Loox or maybe something else that was only running on 300mhz, and when they asked about the 400mhz processor they got a rather 'fuzzy' answer. We haven't heard much about it lately.

Anyone have any thoughts.

Dave

Yup, exactly my thoughts.
The screens are usually faked though. Added in later on so you can actually see them.
