Ok, warm up those credit cards - it's time to pre-order the Lord of the Rings! I can honestly say that this movie is one of the best I've ever seen. Despite the hype, I was totally blown away. I saw it twice in the theatre, which is something I've only done a handful of times - movie theaters are so expensive now, but The Lord of the Rings was worth it. And of course, buying the DVD from Amazon will help support this site.

I've ordered my copy, but now I wonder if I shouldn't cancel it and just wait until 2004 when the big 3-DVD (maybe 4?) bonzo set comes out. :?

I recieved my first audio book today 14 cds... The Two Towers. Too cool!!
At about 85mb per CD and a 256mb card gets me about 3hrs of listening at a time. So now when they sing those damn songs I know what tune to sing it to.

I got an e-mail from bn.com saying that along with the 2-DVD PG-13 version seen in theaters, there will be a 4-DVD R rated version coming out as well... Both were being offered as a preorder...

The version that was released in the theater last Christmas will be released on DVD this summer on a 2 disc set. This is what you are able to pre-order now. In November, a director's edition will be released that will include 30-40 additonal minutes of footage added into the movie. I have heard that will be a 4 disc set, but am not sure. A great site for LOTR news is www.theonering.net. They have all the goods on the movies, plus some. BTW, I have all 3 volumes on audio books and they are great, over 50 cds. Read word for word. In addition, I also have and recommend the BBC rendition of the LOTR that was done for radio. It is about 13 discs and is actually an audio play. Ian Holmes plays Frodo. If you ar a LOTR nut it is a great investment. Never thought of recording it to a CF card for listening on my iPaq but a grat idea.

Exactly five weeks before premiere of "The Two Towers" (i.e. mid-November) a so called "Extended DVD Edition" of "The Fellowship of the Ring" will be released. Here are some features of this release:
- - four DVD disks,
- 30 min. of extra movie footage (same as in VHS and stanard DVD editions to be released mid-August),
- six hours of extra material, which will not be included in "standard DVD" edition.
This is definitively the edition I am waiting for, skipping mid-August "standard edition".
