Default My iPAQ's Back...

I was one of the people who jumped really quickly on Compaq's short-lived offer to perform hardware repairs for the 3800's backlight problems. I figured that I'd be the guinae pig this time and see if the repair actually worked.

Well, I sent it out last Thursday afternoon and it arrived back today. The packing slip says they replaced the "PCB ASSY INVERTER BOARD ROSELLA," and so far, the backlight **seems** to be behaving. I've got to completely restore the device, though, so when I'm back up and running as normal, I'll let you know how effective the repair was.

I received my iPAQ on Monday 4/15. The next morning I had the backlight problem. It is not happening as much but it still has a problem.

Default Same Problems

Yes, sad to say I got mine the next day due to having purchased a CarePaq. All was rosy until last night, when it happened again. Those rat bastards!!!! :!: :!: :!:

I just sent mine today and I'm hoping they get it back to me by friday, cause I need it on Saturday. But now I'm starting to worry if this was actually worth it... Has the fix actually worked for anyone? :?

And also, my understanding from what the Compaq support tech told me was that they replace the entire motherboard, not just some inverter board...

Hmm, strange. On the one side they are telling us not to send it in (as in http://wwss1pro.compaq.com/support/reference_library/viewdocument.asp?countrycode=1000&prodid=2183|iPAQ+H3800+Series+Pocket+PC&source=MH020124_CW02.xml&dt=3 ) and on the other hand, when talked to them on the phone, repairing the unit is an option.

I just called Compaq here in Germany for that matter and will send mine in next week to get the repair / exchange.

I guess that they just exchange something and hope that they send you one of the 70% that seem not to have the problem. If you get one of the 30% that have the problem youre out of luck. (... and have to exchange it again.)

Hopefully I am lucky

And now I keep hearing that they may have a software fix for the problem ??????? This is the strangest problem I've ever seen. My IPAQ sits all night, light will not come on in morning. I turn it on and off a couple of times and everythings fine. However during the day, does not matter how long it sits powered off, light will come on, no problem. Weird, really weird.....

Wait, they give you the option to replace it? A compaq manager assured me that the only way for them to do an exchange as opposed to sending it in for repair was to buy a carepaq. Do you have a carepaq or do I have to go kill someone at compaq?

I sent mine in and they dropped and scratched it so I finally got mine replaced and the new one seems to work. Good luck to all.
