Default Neonode releases Microsoft Smartphone phone?

http://www.mobil.se/nyheter/visa.asp?id=4824&sid=1

I just came by the Swedish mobile devices site Mobil and... Well, I must have gone blind! It's a report from CeBIT about the "Swedish super cell phone Neonode." According to the article, Neonode is built on top of Microsoft's operating system for smartphones. Magnus Goertz, Neonode's marketing director, says smiling: "Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola have all visited our booth."

The phone uses an SD card and a 64 MB SD card is bundled with the phone. The phone is said to be "extremely small", with the same heigth and length as a credit card. The screen is reported be a touch screen. I didn't know the Smartphone 2002 platform supported touch screens, but there's something new and unique with this patented screen. Neonode says they will sell the screen technique to other manufacturers.

Another interesting, super interesting actually, paragraph in the article is about a messaging application for GPRS, which will enable sending messages for a few cents each... Have we discussed this before, heh?

The Swedish paper Ny Teknik also reports about Neonode saying that the radio circuitry is bought from a French manufacturer. Magnus Goertz says in this paper: "There are three delegations that can make money on a phone like this: Microsoft, the device maker and the mobile network operator. But I believe it will be difficult to those just making devices. I compare those to the PC market where a few companies, for instance Dell has made it by heavily rationalizing production."

The target market is youth. The price will be relatively low (a subjective valuation made by Mobil): about $450 without subscription going to $300 without subscription shortly after its release. If you buy the phone with a subscription, it will be about $100. Neonode smartphone is said to be available this summer.

Default So small!

Wow, it's great to see such a small phone! I can't help but look at it and wonder when people are going to start complaining that it doesn't have a traditional numeric pad on it...I think it's great when companies take the initiative and say "why can't we get rid of it?" (of course, meaning, let's build it into the screen, etc). Bold, really bold. We'll see if it takes off!

Send a message via MSN to Foo Fighter

Looks like a cross between an iPod and an iPaq.

Looks like the use of the handsfree kit is mandatory as I don't see any mic or speaker integrated!!! That's one of the reasons it's so small, I guess.

Default New design

Mobil has a new article about the Neonode in it's latest issue http://www.mobil.se/nyheter/visa.asp?id=5491&sid=1

The Neonode was not released during the summer because one of the manufacturers biggest customers requested that they would intergrate a speaker and mic into it. They have also intergrated a camera in it and changed the design completly as you can see in the picture. (This is not the final design)

This looks more like a cell phone to me compared to the old one. I wonder if the touchscreen will work in a satisfactory way though.

The phone is due for release around christmas.
