Default New Ruggedized Case From Otter

http://www.armorbyotter.com/armor2000.htm

I came across the Heavy Armor 2000 case from Otter Cases that is touted to protect a device from all kinds of nasties, like water, dust, sand, etc.

"The Heavy Armor is designed for the professional that uses their Handheld device in less than ideal conditions. The applications range from military, industrial, emergency services, outdoor sports, airline, automotive, hunting, or any other harsh environment where the device could be subject to dirt, water, shock, or impact. The transparent screen allows the full use of the touch screen without having to remove the device. The bottom portion of the case is made from clear polycarbonate so the infrared beaming of information and data can still be done while the device is enclosed."

I like the idea of being able to use a device's touchscreen while still in the case. They also have different sizes and types to fit Pocket PCs with various expansion sleeves. And, you get your choice of four exciting colors!

Default form AND function

It's great to see someone realize that wads and wads of armor is useless if you have to REMOVE The device from the case in order to use it.

This case is on my list. Great work ....

We thought it would be great too, until we tested it.

We tested the otterbox for handhelds and I thought it was great, at first.

The first problem we found it that if you don't super stuff padding into the box behind the device, it tends to slide around quite a bit. Also, tapping anything out by the edges of the screen was quite a pain- too much space between the plastic and the touchscreen.

The biggest problem I think that we found is that with repeated use, the plastic entry area leaves a film on the touchscreen that we couldn't remove with brainwash cleaner. ('ve gotten just about anything else off with that stuff...)

Those two things aside, it does make it pretty bulkey, so don't plan on putting it into any kind of pockets- barley fits into cargo pocket.

Just my 2 cents worth
