Default Star Trek The Next Generation, The Complete First Season

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005Y1NF/jasonsego

The year was 1987. Ninteen years after the original series was cancelled, Star Trek was still a powerful market force. The movies were making money (although Start Trek: The Movie put me into a coma), and Paramount decided to roll the dice and air a new Star Trek TV series. Would fans accept the new crew? They did, and Star Trek grew into a massive franchise worth billions (I'm guessing).

The point of this off-topic post is that I received the complete first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD, and I'm in heaven. For any Trek fan, this is a must. I nearly killed myself laughing at the horrible acting in the first episode, "Encounter at Farpoint Station". It's eerie how similar they made it to the original series - cheesy music, cheesy visuals, cheesy acting. Thank goodness is got better! This set is truly worth the money - this is going to be an expensive year in the Dunn house for DVDs. Now wouldn't it be cool if Paramount released these episodes as Pocket PC video files? Not a chance in hell, but great concept.

Amazon has gone crazy with the pre-orders: you can get season two, three, four, five, six and even season seven, all on pre-order. All links are affiliate links.

{cough} $105!!! And to beat all of that, you can rarely buy one season since the first episode (starting with season 4) was a continuation of the previous season. Only 1 and 2 stand alone, and they were the worst, which for TNG still means they were good. :-)

Oh well, added to my wish list. {Oh honey.... guess what I want for my b'day.....}

Default ST:TNG YES!!!

I think ST: TNG rules! I can't wait until all the seasons are released. Finally, DVD is a practical medium to deliver all the shows a series can air. Remember the days of 50-100 VHS tapes? <sigh>

Do what I do, get SnapStream http://www.snapstream.com or something similar and have it set to record all your ST:TNGs into a nice format for viewing on PPC.

Yeah, a little pricey, but remember you're getting 20 hours of ST:TNG over 7 DVDs. An average DVD is 2 hours, so it's like getting 10 DVDs, which would cost around $225 or so. :-)

Cool. I don' t have to rip the TNN rebroadcasts anymore. Just gotta save the $$ to get the collection!

The first episode was rather comical. Picard was a little jumpy in that one:
'Initiate saucer separation!'.

That's an understatement - everyone was overacting so bad it was hilarious! Tasha Yar..."BUT CAPTAIN!!", Worf wanting to blast a hole in the main viewer. It was truly wonderful to see that hilarious episode again!
