Default Nexian NexiPak Dual CompactFlash Expansion Pack

http://www.dreampages.com?aff=pocketpcthoughts&page=nexnexdualco.html

I haven't tried one of these yet, or seen one for that matter, but the concept looks exellent: dual CompactFlash slots, and a massive 1550 mAh battery for extra power. Our affiliate partner DreamPages has then for $149.95.

"The NexiPak provides two Type II CompactFlash expansion slots allowing for increased memory, connectivity or applications PLUS twice as much power to extend the life of your iPAQ between charges with its rechargeable and removable Li-Ion battery. It's the best thing when the iPAQ Pocket PC can have twice the functionality and power with Nexian's NexiPak. The NexiPak provides two Type II CompactFlash expansion slots allowing for increased memory, connectivity or applications PLUS twice as much power to extend the life of your iPAQ between charges.

Detachable, rechargeable Li-Ion battery usable up to 12 hours
Provides 2X power to the iPAQ and CompactFlash Module
Charges iPAQ primary power source when drained
 Dual Type II CompactFlash slots
1550mAH removable and rechargeable Li-Ion battery pack
 LED Charging Indicator
Compatible with H3100, H3600, H3700 and H3800 Series iPAQ Pocket PC."

Default Only a couple of problems...

I have tried one of these. So did a lab-mate of mine. We had a few problems:

1. The thing is huge. I mean, really, really big. There's no reason for it to be this big.
2. It doesn't actually work for things you'd want it for. For example, neither my lab-mate nor I could get it to work with our LinkSys CF 801.11b cards. (Nexian said they were working to fix the problem; I'm not holding my breath.)
3. It's not well made. My lab-mate's unit had a tab for holding the battery in place that broke off. And a few corners have inexplicable extensions that seem destined to catch on something and break off.

I'd love to buy a dual-CF card sleeve. I think lots of other iPaq users would, too. But this isn't it.

Default GM, where are you?

I wonder if George wouldn't mind slimming this sleeve down. Silver Slider 3 x 2 or something like that.

I admire the companies that innovate new sleeves for the iPAQ; they're a real credit to the industry. But, people are fickle. While there's always the specialty need, you have to get it to be at least the size of a Compaq sleeve, or most won't buy into it. The price and size will make this go right by all those looking for an extra geek toy (which is why we buy half the sleeves anyways, right?

Yeah, but who wants to pay $149 for a sleeve then another $150 for the modification - I love George's work, but hand-made modifications are EXPENSIVE.

Wait, I take that back - SOMEONE would pay it. ;-)

Default Waiting for next generation of this

I am kind of hoping that they will come out with a second generation of this, with a slimmer design. I love the concept, but I thing most people would agree that it is probably larger than it needs to be. I'd even pay a little extra for a slimmer design.

Default It is not as good as it sounds

I have one of these devices. It is does not work with all CF cards and it does not come with an AC adapter. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of this product. Others are having similar issues.
