Default Compaq shareholders overwhelmingly vote to merge

http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Symbol=US:CPQ&Feed=PR&Date=20020320&ID=1504943

"Shareholders of outstanding common stock of Compaq Computer Corp. CPQ approved the merger of Compaq with Hewlett-Packard Company HWP at a special meeting held here today. The Compaq merger vote carried by a nine-to-one margin."

So I guess we are just waiting for the final HP vote to be tallied, which could take up to four weeks, but I suspect we'll know by next Friday at the latest. By the way, this is not really a merger, despite what they are calling it. I don't think I've ever seen a true merger. This is an acquisition of CPQ by HWP.

Did the Compaq shareholders really understand that their company was really beeing sucked up by HP?

Now we have Compaq that alredy engulfed the gigantic DEC and still suffers a major indigestion. AT&T ate NCR a few years ago and spitted it out bloodless a while later.

I doubt this transaction will be beneficial to any of the parties, especially since Carly Fiorina, HP's boss, has been quite unable to keep any of her promises when she joigned HP:

For this read www.pencomputing.com newsbit dated January 31st that links to a very informative article at the Red Herring.

 That remains to be seen. Damlier Benz and Chrysler was thought to be a darn good example of a merger until about 18 months later when all senior management from Chrysler was gone.

AOL/TWX might be different though, because they are soooooooo different. Usually it is when you have great synergies that "mergers" become acquisitions. Not much to synergize with AOL/TWX. Certainly not their email systems.  http://www.msnbc.com/news/727898.asp
