Default Navini Networks Delivers True Nomadic Wireless Broadband

http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Symbol=US:CPQ&Feed=BW&Date=20020318&ID=1495767

Navini? Who-nini?

"Navini Networks, Inc, the leading provider of nomadic, zero-install(TM) wireless broadband technology, today announced it is teaming with Compaq Computer Corporation CPQ to deliver the first wireless broadband access to a handheld personal computer.

Navini has developed a custom expansion pack for the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC that contains Navini's customer premise equipment (CPE) technology. The new sleeve will give iPAQ users true broadband capabilities. This wireless experience, not previously available on any handheld PC, allows for high bandwidth applications such as streaming video.

According to Peter Jarich, research director at The Strategis Group, "our research shows, conclusively, that consumers are interested in portable broadband. Navini's capabilities for nomadic broadband access, paired with handheld devices will doubtless whet consumers' appetites for widespread availability of broadband on their own PDAs."

What is the Navini network you might ask? I was wondering the same thing. This is from the same article:

"Navini Networks' Ripwave(TM) products consist of a base station, CPE, and element management system (EMS) and run in the 2.4 GHz ISM and 2.6 GHz MMDS spectrums. Navini's solution results in a price/performance combination that is superior to other broadband offerings in the marketplace. The product is currently being beta-tested and general availability is targeted for the first quarter of 2002."
