Default Seamless wireless access

http://www.eurescom.de/news/newsreleases/SeamlessAccess.asp

This article discusses a new type of device that automatically switches from LAN, to WLAN, to GPRS depending on available connectivity options. The pictures in the article are iPAQ Pocket PCs, so the real substance is in the software, called Mobile IP, that enables the detection of and connection to the networks. Mobile IP runs on Pocket PC 2002s. Companies involved include Birdstep, Patria Ailon and Telenor.

"Josef Noll from Telenor explains: "Leaving your office while synchronising your e-mails between PC and PDA will no longer be a problem. Just plug off from the LAN, the PDA will then switch to WLAN and after you left the WLAN coverage area to GPRS, continuing the synchronisation without interruption."

Telenor is the third mobile operator company, following mmO2 and Deutsche Telekom, that in my opinion seems to head towards a valid mobile network vs Internet attitude. (Thanks to Small Town Man for the link!)

I didn't really read this article, but is this similar to the Bell Labs announcement awhile ago of a similar effort in development? Or was that IBM? Can't remember...

Now all I need is a Pocket PC with integrated bluetooth, 802.11, ethernet, IR, GPRS, CDMA, wireline modem,.... and a little wagon to carry the battery.
