Default Pocket Backup

http://www.spritesoftware.com/products.html

How do you get a single file out of your backup if you don't want to do a complete restore? I know this question is a recurring one in the newsgroup. Pocket Backup gives you that and more:
Backup of data to storage card or local filesystem. There is no need for access to your active sync cradle to backup and restore your data.
Multiple File or Directory Backup and Restore.
 Selective Database Backup and Restore.
Battery Monitoring - auto-start on low battery.
 Scheduled operation.
Compression to reduce backup file size.
 Encryption to safeguard your data.

You can get an evaluation copy from the Sprite Software site or buy the product for $30.

Or why not use a freeware that can perform at least the individual file restore?

Nice one. Too bad I don't use Activesync Backup as I want to be able to backup without the desktop.

Hey! You don't need Activesync to do a Pocket Backup or restore! SpriteSoftware's program may allow that, but I don't use Activesync for backups either, and have only restored from CF or my external HD. Selective restores are great with Pocket Backup Pro, especially if you're doing a clean sweep, and only want PIM data and stuff like Favorites, My Documents, and other non-system data restored. I just used it extensively this weekend to do a from-scratch re-build of my EG-800, and it was a HUGE time saver.

I can't beleive how frustrating Pocket Backup has been. I receive nothing but corrupt backups and errors with backups. Even when it told me I had backed up successful, it still was corrupt.

Hi,
This is the second incidence of corruption with Pocket Backup that we have heard of. The first also caused the iPAQ backup utility, and ActiveSync backup to fail and was resolved by an iPAQ ROM upgrade.

Can you please email [email protected] and send the SpriteLog.txt file that is created in the top level directory.

Thank you.

Some more info on Pccket Backup internal checks.
During a backup operation, Pocket Backup reports any errors to either the users, if for example a file is locked and can't be opened, or a database record is corrupt, and also logs it to a log file. Any file or record to be included in the backup is protected by a 32 bit crc which is calculated over the file or record data. This checksum is calculated again at restore time and compared to the sum in the backup file, and again any discrepancies are reported to the user and logged.
So, this leads me to believe that the problem is very unlikely to be data corruption. It is possible (though unlikely) that the file header information is corrupt in the file system and that this corruption will be propagated to the backup file, but without getting some more information on the specific problem, we can't tell.
We would very much like to resolve the problem raised in this forum and welcome contact from Toshi. Please email [email protected] and include contact details so that we can get in touch.
Thank you,
Sean Connolly
