Default Fiorina unveils HP's consumer goods for 2005

http://news.com.com/Fiorina+unveils+HPs+consumer+goods+for+2005/2100-7353_3-5517410.html?part=rss&tag=5517410&subj=news.7353.5

"Fiorina said that HP will come out with a version of Apple Computer's iPod photo later in the year, and she gave the first public demonstration of a media hub that comes with high definition television capabilities, a digital video recorder and in-house screen technology that improves the resolution. "The result of all of this is a much clearer and cleaner picture," she said. The box, which comes out in the fall, also comes with an automatic update service for upgrading the software and an electronic programming guide designed by HP. In the spring, HP will come out with a new version of a current digital camera that will sport a shell designed by singer Gwen Stefani. Stefani, who joined Fiorina onstage, said the design of the camera was inspired by Harajuku, a neighborhood in Tokyo where teenage girls come to show off their homemade fashions."

HP seems to be betting that people are really going to jump into these digital devices during the next year. HP seems to be branching out in all directions with their Linux media centers and the lame iPod photo. And to think, all it takes is HP featured recording artist Gwen Stefani to design a shell for a digital camera. What a world we live in.

Carly will hate me, but I have a hard time thinking of HP as a consumer electronics company. Say HP to me and I think printers, iPaqs, Media Center PCs and business PCs and servers. I don't think of cameras, TVs, iPods etc. Same with Dell. I think PCs not all the consumer stuff they're trying to get into (although their TVs are appealing).

I totally agree. How the heck do they think they can compete against the Samsungs of the world. :?:
